Asami WATANABE is certainly a split case, with Script credits from the 1980's and Animation credits from recent years.

The animation credits are the huge majority and include releases from 2010, so for the time being I would like to set her kanji name to the one of the animator, 渡辺 亜彩美 (D2_STATION kanji source).

The given name is already set to 亜彩美. But when I try to set the family name to 渡辺 it is rejected with the message:

"We already have similar information!"
So apparently this name has been entered before and then hidden, right?

Yeah, that's right. It looks like the scriptwriter's kanji information was hidden, because that person should be Mami Watanabe instead, according to the Writers Guild of Japan.

Anyway, I've restored the family name kanji now since it's needed for the animator.

So should we also move the Script credits to Mami Watanabe and then purge them from Asami Watanabe? Most of them appear to have kanji sources (Allcinema) so the proof should be relatively easy.

Yes. It seems Allcinema mistakenly listed the reading of her name as "Asami" previously (checking now, it's no longer the case), so that's probably why there are a lot of entries with that source.

7 Script credits of Asami Watanabe flagged & added; these can be hidden now. For the 8th "Screenplay" credit (source: "The Anime Encyclopedia: A Guide to Japanese animation since 1917, page 315") I didn't find a confirmation.

While moving the Script credits to Mami WATANABE I noticed that one of them belongs to a person named 渡辺 歩. Allcinema spells this name わたなべ・あゆむ = WATANABE Ayumu; in fact ANN has a person of this name (with no kanji name until today, credits include Storyboard from 1979 as well as Mechanical Design for a 2009 Doraemon movie) but the kanji name 渡辺 歩 at ANN currently leads to Susumu WATANABE (Animation Director for several Doraemon releases). So the issue appears to be more complex than it looked at first sight.

Susumu would be a legal ENAMDICT reading of 歩 but 渡辺歩 has her own Wikipedia page with a reading of わたなべ あゆむ = WATANABE Ayumu and a credit list including many Doraemon releases. (The Writers' Guild page linked in your posting doesn't have this person.) So the WATANABE Susumu entry (with "no source" for its kanji name) might be a kanji misreading duplicate of WATANABE Ayumu.
Of the five credits for WATANABE Susumu, four are sourced with Wikipedia URLs of the anime (which then link to WATANABE Ayumu), the fifth is a JMDB url (currently not usable).
Should we move these credits and then purge Susumu WATANABE as well?

I found an image of the back cover (with the staff credits) here, but unfortunately clicking to enlarge doesn't really do it enough to make out the names well. Given that I can make out J.C. Staff, though, I wonder if the listing for Toei there is a mistake (can't tell what they're credited for, though).

I did manage to find some proof with some of the Japanese credits being listed at a Russian auction site on Google. It's no longer there, and the cached page doesn't work either, but just the listing is enough in this case:
Quote:
ミュージック・ビデオ「闇のパープル・アイ」 MUSIC VIDEO - PURPLE EYES IN THE DARK ORIGINAL STORY BY CHIE SHINOHARA. 監督・出演者など, 原作:篠原千絵 監督:西久保瑞穂 音楽:新田一郎 構成:渡辺麻実. Chapter: DESTINY AGAIN

Yes, it definitely looks like Susumu is a misreading.

I can't vouch for the accuracy of the book, but on page 315, the following credits are given for Purple Eyes in the Dark:

Quote:
Purple Eyes in the Dark
1988. JPN: Yami no Purple Eye, AKA: Purple Eye of Darkness. Video. DIR: Mizuho Nishikubo. [b]SCR: Asami Watanabe. DES: Chie Shinohara. ANI: N/C. MUS: Derek Jackson, Purple Gar, Mayumi Seki. PRD: Youmex, Toei. 30 mins.

If that helps at all.
