What kind of anime fan are you? Casual, Moderate, Hardcore, Otaku? share what & why here.
I'll start. I myself am a Moderate fan, I enjoy many series, however do not care much for alot of modern tropes/cliches & well..innuendos in Anime today. I know I am not casual or Hardcore..So I have always considered myself a Moderate anime fan. |

Well I don't collect a lot of Anime paraphernalia so I'm not an Otaku per-say. I do watch a lot of Anime when I have the free time so, yeah. I also don't remember every little thing about an Anime, so I can't be all that hardcore. I would have to say I'm an above-moderate Anime fan.
I like it, but not enough to buy every little thing about it and not waste my mental capacity with useless trivia about it. I just like to watch it when ever I get the chance and enjoy the ride on my fantasy coaster. |

Moderate or hardcore, I'm not sure. My days of watching animes are random. At times I watch everyday, then I don't watch for a while but I do visit here everyday. I believe I watched most of animes that require essential viewing. Since I just found out animes as a new hobby, I don't have any figurines nor do I want to start collecting ones. I don't have poster or anime merchandise but I do like to collect anime dvd's.

Im not too sure, most of my friends say im obsesed. There may be a little truth to that but not entirely.
I like to think of myself as an Otaku not hardcore though. On a scale out of 10 i'd give myself 8. I collect DVDs' and manga and would like to start buying figurines..just as mementos you know. I also draw fan-art and frequent anime forums everyday. Its still just a hobby to me but a hobby I love and make a point to indulge in atleast everyday. |

Well as a younger kid i was only interested in the action packs like DBZ, Naruto and Bleach.
Then i got a little older and started to enjoy the high school shows with all the ecchi and harem and just get a kick out of the awkward situations. Now i still like high school stuff, but I am more into the romance/comedy genre, since i still find that stuff humorous. Horror is something not my fancy unless it has a real extensive plot like Death Note or the sort |

I feel like this is the sort of thing I'd have to ask someone else. I'm sure someone else would call me hardcore, but I'd hate to think of myself as being that devoted to any one thing so I'd call myself moderate, even though I'm pretty sure that's wrong because I have a larger anime and manga collection then most everyone I know IRL. When some of my friends start asking to borrow/watch stuff over here before they buy it, you know you've become the local friend rental/preview library and that clearly goes beyond moderate.
Cuddling my cat is my current number 1 activity, but my number 2 activity is probably an anime/manga mix. But I don't want to admit to how much time I probably do spend on anime and manga so I declare myself "moderate". |

After thinking it over, I think I've finally crossed over into otaku territory. Between my obsession with limited editions, the 231 shows in just over 2 years, the Lucky Star shirt I actually LOVE wearing for real, the large amount of time I put into looking for great deals, always having anime on my mind, naming a pet after an anime character, the large amount of time I spend on this board, using anime references in real life speak (if only had a dollar for every time I've said "Not a problem" or "My drill will pierce the heavens"...) and, worst of all, the fact that I've called a real life person moe without joking, I think I've crossed.
Sure, I'm not an ace at the Character and Quote guessing games, but I think that's a result of bad memory. And sure, I'm athletic and have tremendous people skills, but I think everything else about me is pretty otaku. |

I only buy DVDs and manga. Not sure what that qualifies as. Figures and other merch do not really interest me unless they are accessories/props for a cosplay.
I have around 40 volumes of manga, which is very low. And about 40 anime series/movies. The thing is, with most media, I don't keep building and building. After a certain point, which I have already passed, I sell shows and movies that I don't feel I will be watching again or ever watch all if I have not watched them yet. Basically, with every passing month my libraries of DVDs and CDs become more and more concentrated with favorites and less of shows I am a bit "eh" about. I think I'm at moderate but slipping into hardcore as my DVD collection has grown exponentially in the past few months. CR subscription for over a year probably tips me over that line too.

Well .. I am not sure how you catagorize it excactly. I don't really own any Anime merchandise other than DVD's of which I have two 15 foot shelves full of them. Oh and doctor who but seriously he gets about 4 foot the rest is Anime.
I guess I am just one of these guys who doesn't really see the need to advertise my fandom. It's enough to own the dvd's |

I wouldn't say that since there are a lot of bigger otaku on this board than me. Besides, there are a couple things I don't do that you could probably use against me like: I don't go to cons and I don't have collection outside of anime and manga (no figures, etc...). However, I forgot to mention that I'm not opposed to paying high prices for rare items ($250 for the Sakura Book for example) and I import art boxes from other countries. I guess those partially cancel out the lack of connage and figures. |

I'm a casual fan, for sure; there aren't many titles that really jump out and scream "Buy me!", although I do like collecting anime and videogame figures. For me, I don't really see anime as some separate, unique category of entertainment. My DVDs sit along side my boxsets of Ren & Stimpy and Happy Tree Friends.
Financial circumstances are also a factor; if I had more disposable income, I would definitely feel a greater inclination to experiment a little and try shows that I may not otherwise bother with. As it stands right now, I'm only focussed on what I personally feel to be 100% shelf-worthy. All killer, no filler. |

Hardcore, I'd say. I'm not totally obsessed as I have a job, attend college, and do stuff with friends, however, I have seen almost 800 anime in 13 years and I have a massive DVD collection that takes up half my room. Most of that being anime. I'm not that into manga or collecting useless anime swag like models, or figurines though.

I would have to say I'm right up there with Kruszer, Hardcore but not completely obsessed. Unless you count me watching Blood+ while I type obsessed. But really, I do love Anime but I also have a life outside my fandom. |
