It's hard to believe Tales from Earthsea is finally getting released here in the states. I long already purchased the R2 release (which contained the English dub, which I hope is the same for this release), but I prefer a release that I can play on my DVD player rather than my computer. I admit that of all the Ghibli films this one is rather rough around the edges, and it definitely dragged during the end, but it still had a lot of beautiful moments with an even more beautiful ending theme song. In short, looking forward to it!

As expected, Manglobe puts up a really solid animation effort for KamiNomi; it looks really sleek. I wonder if they'll actually get a profitable series out of it.

Well, then, Earthsea's getting a theatrical run? From what I've heard, the movie is pretty mediocre--a lot of people feel as though pushing the job of director on Goro wasn't necessarily the best of ideas since he had never directed a film before.

I've never seen the movie, nor have I ever seen a Miyazaki film in theatres(even though Princess Mononoke is my favorite piece of entertainment ever). Sure, this isn't Hayao, but it's still Miyazaki, right? xD.

Anybody know where I can find out where the movie is playing? Surprised

Edit: Eh...just searched around. Turns out it won't be playing anywhere near me. Might have to travel a bit to see it, or I may just drop it all together. Depends on the quality of the film.

Can anybody who's seen it tell me if it's any good?

Has Earthsea really not been released in the US before? Wow, there's a rare example of Australia getting something first.

I think the negative press this film got is unfair, mostly deriving from either hardcore fans of the book, or else people objecting to the fact that Goro isn't Hayao. Well, he's not, he has his own style, and for a first effort it was pretty damn good.

I'd rank Earthsea below Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and Ponyo, but at least equal with everything else Ghibli has done. It's certainly better than Howl's Moving Castle, which I saw shortly before Earthsea.

We seem to have different tastes, though, seeing as I'm apparently one of the few people who didn't think Spirited Away was all that great. I'd rank quite a few of Ghibili's earlier works(Nausicaa, CitS) above it. But, hey, to each his own.

Well, the way I see it, I'll just have to go and make my own decision--if I end up hating it like a lot of other people do and deem it a waste of money, then that's my problem. xD.

Dude, Manglobe is animating KamiNomi?! Awesome!! I don't know how I missed that. Oh boy, now I'm doubly excited for that show.

That HD Earthsea trailer is no upscale. I wonder if this will be getting a BD release, bypassing Ghibli's BD schedule (Nausicaa release scheduled for 14/7/10).

Earthsea is an absolute failure in storytelling. It's nice to look at though...

Earthsea's getting a limited theatre release on August 13th, so that won't be the case.

What I mean is that later Ghibli films don't even have concrete release dates yet, and it has been stated that the BDs will be released in chronological order.

Wow, 'Earthsea' is finally making it's way here. This is good news. I thought it would be tied up in all the red tape. But that's a quick release. This IS good news.

Sweet, so Nausicaa (I already knew this was first) and Laputa are up first and they're the most important to me. Now only if Castle of Cagliostro could have a release in English.

I though it ended to abrupt for my liking.
