rewatching Gunbuster recently (for the thousandth time), i was struck by the design of the skimpy suits worn by noriko and the other girls, particularly by the asymmetrical scoop over the left breast. and it struck me that by highlighting the heart the suit was thematically significant: it physically represents the characters' heart and passion and prefigures the scenes where noriko rips gunbuster's heart out/tears her own costume to reveal her left breast.
but this is just an interpretation without any reading to back it up. what do you think of the designs, and their force? maybe the design of the suit is just about drawing attention to the breasts in what is admittedly a pretty jiggly anime. or could there be some in-story explanation for the designs, such as a functional one? |
