Don't know how many people here are NASCAR fans, but you may want to check this Sunday's race on FOX for a special 'anime' commercial by Coke.

Taken from Jayski's Silly Season Site:

Quote:
Coca-Cola Racing Family New Anime Ad to Debut During Daytona 500: In the first-ever NASCAR-themed Anime ad, Coca-Cola Racing Family members Tony Stewart, Kyle Petty, Bobby Labonte and Kevin Harvick are seen as animated superheroes engaging in adventurous activities such as scuba diving with sea monsters and flying fighter planes before they return to the track for a Coke and a bit of racing. Breaking during the broadcast of the Daytona 500 on February 20 -- a growing showcase for new advertising -- the 60-second ad, entitled "Fantastic Four," is the only animated spot in the new Coca-Cola "Make It Real" campaign. It will also run in more than 10,000 movie theaters across the country and a 30-second version of the spot will be featured on NASCAR broadcasts throughout the season. The spot concludes with one word -- 'Adrenaline' -- followed by the campaign tagline, 'Make It Real.' The word 'adrenaline' underscores the drivers' energetic attitude both on and off the track. Created by Berlin Cameron / Red Cell, the new 'Make it Real' campaign also includes print and outdoor executions. Additional ads are planned for later in 2005.(Coca-Cola PR)(2-15-2005)

I'm probably the only NASCAR otaku here... Cool
I was planning on watching the Daytona 500 anyways, so I should catch this. Everyone else should watch it, too. Very Happy

Kinda figured you were a NASCAR fan a while ago. Unfortunatel, while I admire certain aspects of NASCAR, I'm not a fan at all...

I'm a fan myself (Earnhardt 4 life). I've got my VCR set for this Sunday's race.

I think I saw this during the prieviews of Ong Bak this past weekend. It didn't scream anime or anything, but the animation style did sort of remind me of some recent films. I doubt many people who are watching Daytona are going to think anime when they see it though.

Hey, how come this gets press time on ANN, but the LeBron James (NBA) Sprite anime-themed series of commercial didn't? Guess the NASCAR marketing machine is better than professional basketball's. Smile

Bleah, shame coke doesn't know that pretty much all rednecks don't like anime. Maybe if the ad has lots of pointles loops, it'll grab their attention.

And really, can someone PLEASE explain to me just what people find entertaining in this thing that isn't even a sport? I mean seriously, how much of their brain has to be dead to sit down for three or more hours and watch nothing but cars go around in circles. And seriously, do these people have any life at all if they're LISTENING to cars loop around a track for over three hours? There is no point to the crap till the last couple of laps. The enjoyment of this crap escapes me. I need an explination.

*is very grouchy at the moment with it being the beginning of the Nascar season, and SHE is the one the radio station elected to work all the stinking races*

Nothing says "culturally enlightened" like NASCAR fans.

Wow, this is a disgusting sight. I absolutely love how anime fans are always harping on how people should be open-minded and whatnot, but then turn around and make closed-minded generalisations & take cheap shots at other fanbases just like they don't want people doing to them. The hypocrisy is sickening, to put it nicely.

Thank you Nagisa, speaking as someone who has many friends competing in various levels of NASCAR competition (ranging from folks I know who run the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series at Lorain County Speedway to luminaries like Kasey Kahne and J.J Yeley who I know from their sprint car days) I take great offense at being labelled a "redneck" because of one of the motorsports I enjoy AND participate in.

And littlegreenwolf, many of "us people" have a life. Very rich rewarding lives as a matter of fact. And many of us feel our lives are enriched by supporting a professional sport that demands technical, mental, and physical ability, and isn't laden with money squabbles (baseball), player strikes (hockey), rampant drug use (baseball, football), sexual incogruities (basketball), or player violence (basketball, hockey).

If you really REALLY want to understand what drives racers, and in turn what inspires race fans to their love of the sport, I suggest you read the book My Sweetest Victory by the driver Alessandro "Alex" Zanardi. Zanardi is a driver who truly knows the ups and downs of racing, as he was the 1997 and 1998 CART Champ Car series champion, but in 2001 he lost both of his legs in a crash in the same series. The book chronicles his life up to and after the crash, including his return to racing.

I hate to be the bad guy here, but the animated LeBron James commercial was done by Nike, not Sprite. (Use the search).

This wasn't reported at ANN (and I will take blame for not reporting it to them when it happened), but the LeBron James-Nike commercial was banned in China:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6659245/

I'm curious to see what this commercial looks like. I like watching NASCAR races, and there's a good following of the sport up here in Cleveland. (My uncle and cousins watch NASCAR religiously.) I watch the Daytona 500 every year, and it's a very exciting event. Shame on those whose criticize this great sport of auto racing, and thanks, Paul, for knocking some sense into these idiots. Wink

That's some funny stuff, ferrarimanf355. Just as good as Mike Smith's NASCAR editorials.

BTW, with all the $$$ they have, how come ADV Films hasn't jumped into sponsoring a NASCAR race team?
