Aye, this story is very compelling. The rain scene just proved my original suspicion; that Takao was a little hipster. Anyway, the art is very mediocre. Hopefully that doesn't turn off many people.

This has been my least favorite volume of this series, though I still am completely fascinated by it.
I have much less trouble with the art than the reviewer and above commentor have, but I agree that there are certainly ups and downs in it.
The thing that I found hard to swallow and that hurt this volume the most for me is what Carlos said about some of their actions. They were often very hard to shallow as believable and strained my ability to understand them at all. Particularly the scene in the rain.
Here's to hoping the concluding chapter can make some redemption on these points, but either way I can't wait to read the 4th volume.

Oh I am happy to see that people like this thing just as much as I do.
The story will only more pessimistic and messed up and some of the times it will be very hard to read.
Now I dont really have any big complaint expect that one character does (Nanako Saeki) does some stuff that is really illogical.Besides that it is great stuff.

Haha perfect. Superior attitudes do often mask an intense loneliness. Nakamura is slowly trying to start a 2 member cult. She honestly thinks she is above the worms when she is the ugliest creature of all. I do feel a bit sorry for Saeki. She seems to have some really bad self-esteem issues, but she needs to stop throwing herself into such a horrible relationship. I really hate all these characters, but it's hard to not keep up with the trainwreck.

Yes, yes. There isn't a single likeable character in the entire story. Even Takao's parents a too lenient on him. Does he even get grounded for his actions? Or maybe they're just confident their son will become a responsible drone bee like them as well.
And Saeki is probably the strangest character of the three. There's something really messed up with that girl. A pretty girl with self-esteem issues who falls for a pervert.

Well, the artwork is average compared to some of the other manga series I've been reading but that's just my opinion. I agree with the story score and can't wait for this manga series to debut TV soon.

What to say about "The Flowers of Evil" series? We seem to have a nice kid,Takao do something stupid like steal his crush's gym uniform. He gets caught by the class weirdo,Sawa and then she proceeds to drag him down to her level. Takao seems to have a fascination with Baudelaire. If I were either of this kid's parents,I'd try to get him interested in another foreign poet like Walt Whitman. I'd also keep any books by Edgar Allen Poe out of the house or else I'd get a phone call from the principal of his school saying that he had a drawing of one of his classmates,Saeki strapped beneath a swinging pendulum.
Sawa seems to be in the running for nastiest girl in the history of manga. I didn't really like her all that much. She seemed like a creep who enjoyed doing nasty things for the sake of being nasty. She virtually blackmails Takao into doing things for her. And,poor Takao has no choice but to go along with her or get in trouble for what he did.
What about Saeki? She seems nice enough but I think she should have been very angry with him for stealing her uniform and she would have been justified in being like that. But,for some reason,I think she likes him and she seems to see a nice guy in Takao in spite of what he did. I also think that Takao is a nice guy who did something extremely stupid.
I read that this manga is semi-autobiographical. I think Saeki might be based on a real person and I hope she was. I'm also hoping that Sawa wasn't real. If she was,I've got the feeling this girl would be in jail somewhere for something that she did.

I really like the art too--it was the stark b/w covers that initially drew me to this series. But then I tend to like manga art that other otaku seem to hate(DMC, Gantz, Kazuo Umezu...)
