At the moment, anyway. In the long run, the strategy is only significant if it leads to an acceptable revenue increase, otherwise it'll be seen as yet another failed attempt to rejuvenate the market.

I think the biggest problem (besides the fact that there's only 3-5 anime a year that most people I know would want to buy..AT ALL) is the price of dvds/blurays. They charge so much and complain when stuff doesnt sell....well they'd at least get SOMETHING if htey sold for a lower price. Anime Legend dvds ftw

I agree; what I was actually more referring to is that this trend is seen by the Japanese as being important.

However, the nice thing about the quick online turnaround of streamed anime is that they don't actually need to sell DVDs/Blurays to be successful. Just like with TV or anything else done commercially on the internet the money is made through advertising and subscriptions. Things like Crunchyroll and Hulu (and Youtube channels, ANN Video, Animenetwork.com, and others still) exist because there's money to be made and if people are watching shows online that they would never buy then that's actually a good thing since it broadens who's watching these shows in a way that still makes money.

With new online streaming sites popping up all the time (the latest being Vizanime.com though it's just a Hulu portal), and only having completed its first big year, I'd say the future is bright for online streams.

I completely forgot that the Gundam franchise had been around for that long until I read item number four in the article. It is not something that comes to mind everyday. All I can say as a Gundam fan is, "Wow."

The giant Gundam statue was pretty ridiculous (in a good way). I sure would like to see it one day but unfortunately traveling to Japan costs a lot.

I like and do not like at the same time how Sunrise is trying to appeal to a broader audience with the new Gundam series. I mean, more people watching it is good. I just did not like the way they translated the original 1979 series into Gundam SEED.

At first, I had my doubts about Gundam 00 due to Gundam SEED. As I saw the first season, I am thoroughly impressed with what they did with it. Now I can not wait for the second season's DVD release.

To date, my absolute favorite Gundam series is Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team. Gundam 00 is currently at second place.

Here's to a bright future, Gundam and Sunrise! Congratulations!
