You can read the site's copyright policy here: animenewsnetwork.com/copyright-policy
The short answer is yes, they're copyrighted. I would imagine polls fall in the same category as "news" on that page in that, if you want to refer to a poll (say, talk about the results of a poll on your own blog and offer your own analysis of the results), then as long as you atribute the original poll to Anime News Network, you're in the clear. If you simply want to copy and paste the results of a poll, well, then you have to get explicit permission ffirst. |

What if another website has a poll system that ranks shows with a word scale as well, but only has two choices (such as Masterpiece and Excellent) that are the same as ANNs polls? Is that infringement?

No, a system of voting about the quality of anime is neither copyrighted nor patented. If someone was to do a thumbs up/thumbs down system, it would be completely different from our system. If someone was to do a system that had 11 qualitative options, that would be something we'd have concerns about. If they were the same 11 qualitative answers, we wouldn't bother with "concerns", we'd just send a C&D and contact our lawyer. In short, anyone can make a system that lets users vote on the quality of a show. Just don't copy our system. -t |

So my system is safe? It has 10 options and only Good and Worst are the same as yours, the rest are all different options.
