Let me try this again
After forgetting about pretty cure (because girls in skirts with moe moe super powers are easy to forget)for about a year, I'm just wondering about how was pretty cure treated in canada? I know they did name changes but... Any nudity, swearing, blood cut out? (If they were any?)basically, did they keep the show faithful? And is there any chance for the movies in English? Just wondering... spoiler[[Note: Try to clam down, Tony K., brand new noob here at this forum and there's no need to instantly lock my thread for not doting my I's and crosses my T's. Just trying to get some info about this show. I want have love for ALL mods in ANY forum.] Last edited by I SHALL WIN THE INTERNETZ on Mon Oct 05, 2009 8:12 pm; edited 1 time in total |

There's a topic for general questions just here http://animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1628.
As a side note, I hate caps lock just as much as naruto avatars. |

Nudity -- it didn't have any nudity to begin with, unless you count liquid-silver body coverings that reveal nothing as "nudity." Swearing -- didn't have any to begin with. Blood -- if there was any in the show originally, I doubt there was enough to require editing. You might want to look up the precure community on LiveJournal, they've run discussions on the dubs and what was changed. Apart from the changes to names and attacks, most of the edits are "de-culturizations," like replacing Japanese text or calling Japanese foods something else. OP/ED changes aside, I don't think there were any scenes cut out or skipped/re-arranged episodes. Also, they omitted the ~mepo/~mipo sentence ending tags, which we can count as a blessing. But overall, it's a relatively faithful dub, compared to other Magical Girl shows like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptors. Also, what the heck are "moe moe superpowers"? Newsflash: "moe" does not mean "anything and everything associated with girls under age 20 in anime." If Pretty Cure's powers were moe moe, you could call Domon Kasshu's Shining Finger a moe moe superpower as well. |

Great, now I can't stop thinking of "Shining Finger" being fetish fuel, not something I needed in my head before I go to sleep. Though, I do find it a little amusing that the OP herd something was dubbed and without even seeing the original (by the sounds of it) he jumps on the forums to ask how much they butchered it. It's a little funny and a little sad at the same time. |
