why aren't mangas in the american Shounen Jump considered licensed? i mean they are being translated, and distributed professionally.

Do you mean current titles (such as RuroKen, Naruto, or One Piece) or the yet-to-be-released titles (like Hunter X Hunter, Dr. Slump, and Ichigo 100%)?

In the case of the liscenced stuff, it's just snooty scanslators who feel they do a better job (and for some it's true).

For the unliscenced stuff, they're probably just still going until the title is actually released. For some, it depends how soon they'll finish - for example, despite being liscenced, Midori no Hibi's last chapter was released since it WAS the last chapter.

It varies basically. You'd need to ask the scanslators to find out for real tho'.
