EH?!?!?!

Shocked

*watches intently*

Okay. Liam O' Brien as Tenma. WIN SAUCE. That will be GREAT. I really hoped he would get it. Anime smile

Lunge is okay...that is to say I can get used to it. And they're pronouncing it..."Roon-gay?" Like...the Japanese pronunciation? I guess that's fine, but is it even a Japanese name? I always thought it would be "Lunge."

And finally...Johan.

...I can't tell who the frick it is. Sad But he seems to fit the part. He sounds very similar to the Japanese...pretty much just as I pictured he'd sound. Now, when you've heard a sub for a long period of time, you get extremely used to it, of course. So in my mind, I was comparing it to the Japanese and going, "Euh, is it good enough, is it good enough?"

But outside my biased brain, the hairs were SERIOUSLY standing up on the back of my neck, so I guess that's a big honkin' yes. Anime smile

Looking forward to hearing more of this.

The pronunciation is more or less correct from what I remember of my German.

Personally I find the dub clips boring and uninspired. But I guess that is just me. I did like Johan's voice at least.

The most disappointing is Lunge, the voice sounds way too young for the role.

Wow. Dub Johan sounds just as chilling as the original. Twisted Evil

Still, curious to know who dubbed him because I can't find anything that reveals who his actor is. Unfortunately, working during the week keeps me from watching Ani-Monday so no watch of dubbed Monster on Sci-fi. Sad

Just got done watching most of the clips, and I have to say I'm impressed. Chills were sent down my spine when I heard Johan's voice...his actor has that soft, creepy tone down to a T.

Tenma sounds great, Liam O'Brien has done a good job so far. Really liking it.

Can't wait until Monday! Very Happy

Meh. I really like Johan, but everyone else feels lackluster. O'Brien sounds like he's constantly putting too much air at the end of each word he speaks and making himself sound winded. I don't like Epcar as Lunge at all and actually thought Spanky Thornton or Beau Billingslea would've absolutely nailed it with zero effort by just using their regular speaking voices. Eva doesn't sound old or bitchy enough, though her script will probably suffice in easily making her come across as one while the series progresses. And then there's Nina/Anna: no one can dub Mamiko Noto, so that's an automatic fail. But at least they didn't use Wendy Lee.

I was really hoping Ocean-Vancouver would get to dub it. Them Canadians got a nice lineup of eclectic voices when they stick to the veterans of the 90s, eh? That group they used for Master Keaton would've made this dub gold with all the accents and script-writing they had in those Western European settings.

Tony K., Sparky Thornton's real name is Kirk Thornton. Sparky is one of his many non-union anime aliases. Kirk was great as Kaname in Code Geass, Saitou in Rurouni Kenshin, and Jet/002 in Cyborg 009 (who was voiced by your beloved Joshua Seth).

I have only read about the first 4 manga volumes. I haven't really heard the Japanese version (even in clips I believe) but I will say the voice choices compared to the Japanese is good/bad. Good for fans who have seen the original version and the same for others who have seen the original also. I too wish I knew who did Johan's dub voice. For a serial killer type figure, that voice is creepily appropriate.

I know, and it's a ridiculous name, even for an alias, hence my calling him "Spanky." He was not great as Saito, by the way. While I generally can't stand his monotone-ness, I think it actually would've worked for Lunge in this series. But oh well.

You may not think he was a great Saitou, however, I do. To each their own. Monotone voices can also be good for certain characters. I too am wanting to see Monster because it kinda reminds me of a modern version of Frankenstein.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't secretly thinking this in the back of my mind somewhere. Heck, I'd probably just re-use half that cast again. I've already seen the show before, so while I'm not going to be waiting wide-eyed for several hours before the show starts, odds are still high I'll watch it, if only because I actually do get Syfy in my room and because I want to contribute to their ratings so they bring over more awesome stuff, and because I need to get my roommate to try anime (I see the chances of that being low personally, she seems too into Disney).

Should we start placing bets on who we think Johan's dub voice is? You win bragging rights if you guess right!

I watched the clips yesterday and I am also very impressed. Johan and Lunge are my favorite casting choices so far, and I also LOVE the fact that Liam O'Brien is Tenma. The minor/supporting roles also seem to be fairly well done too for the most part. I love the deranged gardener in the final clip, though Nina/Anna will have to grow on me. It will be very difficult to top Mamiko Noto's performance, that much is certain.

1. His name is Runge, you can see it in the episode where he shows his ID
2. The Japanese pronunciation is correct

That aside, HOORAY! I'll always prefer Hidenobu Kiuchi as Tenma, but this is actually not bad at all. Except for Johann's voice. He sounds like he's in a bad porno. I'm guessing that they're taking the fangirl route of making his attitude towards Tenma homoerotic.

OK, you lost me there. Johan's English voice sounds nothing like that at all. Homoerotic? Surely you jest.

I guess YMMV, but even if you don't find the seductive edge in his voice, he sounds pretty blatantly fey.
