The only time I have seen Clamp turn in god awful artwork is Code Geass and Takahiro Kimura is partly to blame for that. Most of the time they turn in some pretty good artwork. Some of their Card Captor Sakura art is great, and the mecha designs for MKR are astounding.

Though I am not a fan of their recent long limbed character artwork.

I understand Bamboo's feelings on Xxxholic, but the artwork really didn't bother me so much, and I guess I was better able to accept it as the series's style.

When Central Park Media met its demise, I saved up all money I could to purchase all their good titles from whatever source I could find. I paid almost $100 for Now and Then, Here and There, but I felt it was worth it. Even when ADV rereleased it for a cheaper price as a more compact set, I preferred the CPM release since it contained all the gorgeous artwork. In the case of Grave of the Fireflies, it has no features aside from 'alternate angle storyboards'. I was still proud to have it in my library, but now thanks to Bamboo, I am aware of the special features contained within the ADV release of this great movie. Guess I'll just have to spend a little bit more money, because if the special edition of anything anime exists (with the exception of Akira) I feel the sudden impulse to collect.

Wait! What's that noise? It sounds like the bomber squadron of UFO Valkyrie fanboys returning to attack Bamboo's review again! Sound the sirens! Head for the shelters! Laughing

Yeah, I was so disappointed in xxxHolic's animation... Luckily, the OVAs are top-notch. I really hope Funimation brings them over at some point. (The Tsubasa OVAs, too!)

Hilarious description of the animation in xxxholic! I remember when one of the early reviews called Watanuki's walking as a deformed man-spider. Very Happy

I wasn't too impressed with the animation, but I do like the foxes and monsters though.

Some of those cool points should be revoked for having a bootleg Tenchi Muyo OVA boxset.

See if you can find what I'm talking about in this week's edition of...
Exclamation SPOT! THE! BOOTLEG! Exclamation

Run, not walk to the nearest bookstore, and grab the newest edition of Clover.

Hey, didn't Shelf Life used to include pricing? I think value was actually one of the old factors for the shelf/rent/perish tiering as well... or at least, it was something *I* took into consideration, being a poor/cheap otaku.

I just picked up my lovely Grave of the Fireflies DVD and I am more than happy with my purchase. One thing that was probably an error with my TV but that I have to mention here to make sure: during the course of the movie, did anyone else have a little camera icon at the top right of their screen?

I personally can't stand the The Wallflower. I'm a male and I don't mind bishounen (hell, I own more shoujo manga than shounen), but the guys in this anime are just putridly ugly. And it doesn't help that the heroine is in chibi-mode ALL THE TIME. Plus, the jokes are severely overused. How many times did they need to run that "Path to Becoming a Lady" bit before it becomes redundant along with the occult jokes? Apparently someone thought these things were funny, which means that on 24 separate occasions, someone said, "Hey, should we do occult jokes and the 'Path to Becoming a Lady' bit again?" And 24 different times, someone said, "Yes, let's."

Clover is 12 years old and it's not as if their artstyle stood still. 1997: relatively normal proportions. Now: extremely tall bodies, freakishly long legs and tiny heads.

xxxHolic Shunmuki and Tsubasa Shunraiki are awesome, specially together (however, those who do not follow the manga for both will feel totally lost with either). But xxxHolic Kei is also good. Mostly because there's more character development.

I just wish they would finish up xxxHolic and Tsubasa once and for all. Their on/off hiatus with these series is annoying the hell out of me.

I have to disagree with you Bamboo, xxxHolic is a pretty good series. I'm mean, it's not the best anime ever, but it's one of those anime that are pretty good. It's one of the few current anime that I like. The animation is strange, I'll admit, but I'm more into the characters and the show itself. I'm not deliberately looking for flaws.

Maybe he's doesn't like the odd body proportions. They appear juvenile to me. (And that's just my opinion!)
