I'm glad this manga is getting the recognition it deserves. I read it in scanlations before it got licensed, and LOVED it. I usually don't buy manga, but I'm going to make a point to buy this since it's such a good story .

It is indeed unique in it's approach. I've read the whole thing as well and it'll definetly get its spot on my bookshelf. I enjoyed it, although it did stretch the gags a bit too much at times.

Does Midori ever claim she's "Jennifer Lopez" and start singing the "Taco, Burrito" song?

no.

Honestly, the anime is incomplete... I get the feeling it's meant to hook the viewer into the story. I didn't see all of the anime, but my understanding is clear in that the story wasn't finished in the manga when the anime was finished. From what I saw, the anime didn't take a whole lot of liberties and followed the manga pretty well.

The anime was aired WHILE Midori no Hibi was still being published. So, the manga came before the anime, fyi. The anime is short and as it has been said, somewhat incomplete. I enjoyed the anime very much as a romantic comedy (not a comedy with some romance), where I love the manga as a comedy with some romance.
If it came between buying the anime on DVD or buying the manga, I'd get the manga first before I got the anime on DVD.

Seem to remember it getting licenced June or July.
I'll probably get it, provided they haven't messed it up too badly - and the same goes for the Anime (if the folks who dubbed GTO are going it, I'm not gonna get it).
But, like most here, I loved both the Manga and Anime. Wish I could find the mini version - the Midori equivalent of Maria-sama's "Don't Tell" episodes. There was a great one of Midori wearing rubber gloves and a blindfold when Shuji needs to pee lol.
Ah well.

That was the anime, not the manga. The manga's acquisition just kinda...happened out of nowhere, it seems (the people scanlating the manga were only made aware of it around January 1st according to their updates, and it wasn't through any kind of press release or anything of that sort, but rather the availability of volume 1 on Amazon.com).

Now that I think about it, which one came first? I think that was an episode from 2003, but I'm sure the two aren't connected to eachother.
It definitally is a fun manga to read, and luckely it ends before the gimmick loses its flair and the story drags.

I'll definatly be getting this one. It's been a bit since I got something so refreshingly different.

Apparently May and July are the first releases.
For some reason, even though we're talking about the manga, I have a feeling that the anime would be Adult Swim fodder easily. I mean a romance bewteen a boy and right hand? Isn't that the kind of humor that Williams Street thrives on? (Of course, I realize that there's more to Midori than lame-o Pocket Pool jokes, but still...)

The anime unexpectedly became one of my top animes I've ever viewed. I have still yet to see the manga though. I remember my first knowledge of the series was when I saw my friend during our High School Anime Club reading the manga (untranslated though). I peeked over, and stated, exactly as discribed in the review, "Whoa. That's just wrong."
I definently shall pick this up though. =P
