Well, if nothing else, this film did have very pretty art. Mr. Ikeda deserves it.

Good for him, it was pretty enjoyable to be honest.

While the film wasn't that great (especially not Emmy-worthy), Ikeda's art direction was very imaginative and impressive, so at least he was deserving of recognition. On that note, it's good to see another anime artist win an award from a major organization for something not attached to a feature-length film (and not even as "the" director).

Well, congratulations to Ikeda-sensei and his team of artists that worked on Afro Samurai series. They finally got an Emmy.
I wonder how the award will weigh in Japan itself, as they have their own award bodies?

I'm not a fan of this anime at all, but the work was good, the emmy earned, and it is good to see the emmys award this, the artistic value of anime is too often snubbed, especially by the american awards.

Quite sad... An art without a story.

His art direction is well deserving of an Emmy. I'm not a big fan of the series myself mostly due to the storyline, but could definitely appreciate the style. Way to go Shigemi Ikeda and team.

It only took a TV movie based upon a Japanese one shot dojin funded by Americans to get Japanese animation some recognition...

Actually, if Viz is willing to step up to the plate, this could be good publicity for Monster.
