I get the slight feeling my brother will be going for the new Dragon Boxes, even with the hefty price tag. And if he does, I'll be right there to facepalm (and watch the three boxsets I bought him be sold at a garage sale). XP |

What exactly are these "Dragon Boxes" because I thought the 9 boxes they released were already remastered versions? Also, still no news on Seto no Hanayome and Bamboo Blade? I haven't heard anything about those shows since they were licensed. If I remember correctly, Slayers and Soul Eater were announced at the same time and we have info on those.
On a less whiny note, Funi just simultaneously prevented me from downloading 2 shows and got money out of my wallet with those 2 new licenses. Nice job. I'm so happy there's one company releasing dubs (so please get Toradora before someone else). |

First of I want to say by announcing they've licensed "Casshern Sins" and "East of Eden" Funimation has helped to make the news of this Otakon weekend more exciting than the great disappointment that was AX2009.
Still... Nabari no Ou is out next month and we still don't have a cast announcement? Curious.. |

The Dragon Boxes are remasters of Toei's master prints of Dragon Ball Z they were originally released as 5 separate huge boxes that covered the entire series Dragon Ball (Box 1), Z and TV Specials (Boxes 2 and 3), GT and it's special (Box 4), Movies (Box 5) |

I am going to buy the neon genesis evangelion 1.0 movie once the Blu Ray dvd comes out.
But I am exceptionally excited to see Dragon Ball re-released after several very long years of not seeing the series. I am also interested in watching Sands of Destrution, Big Windup and of course, Case Closed. But I know Big Windup is a awesome show (watched four episodes on the Funimation portal), but Sands could go both ways. But the only way to tell is to watch an episode or two once the series becomes availible in 2010. Anyway, good job Funimation. Please license Toradora before any company does. There aren't enough companies that actually use English audio now and days. |

YES. Please, Funi, for the love of god don't let slice-of-life series go the way of glorified fansubs. Especially not such a great show as Toradora! You've already got a great choice in Cristina Vee, who's fandubbed Taiga marvelously. x3 |

The Dragon Boxes were the Dragon Ball DVD boxsets released in Japan from 2004 to 2006 by Toei Company (through 3rd-party distributors). Five Boxes were released, each one covering a part of the series: - 1 Box for the entire "Dragon Ball" TV series (153 episodes) - 2 Boxes for the entire "Dragon Ball Z" TV series (291 episodes + "Bardock: Father of Goku" & "History of Trunks" specials) - 1 Box for the entire "Dragon Ball GT" TV series (64 episodes + "A Hero's Legacy" special) - 1 Box for all 17 theatrical movies (4 from Dragon Ball & 13 from Dragon Ball Z) Each of the Boxes featured: - Fully-Restored Picture - Digitally-Remastered Sound (TV series & specials in 2ch mono & movies in stereo or surround sound) - All content presented in its original aspect ratio (TV series & specials in standard 4:3 & movies in 16:9 widescreen) They also included display boxes, collector's booklets & other goodies, like replica scouters. They were all limited releases for the japanese R2 market. They were all very expensive (ranging between $500 ~ $1100), and they all have long since been out-of-print. FUNi's Dragon Ball Z DVD sets are also remastered but not in the way the fans would have liked. FUNi chose to not only restore the now 20-year old film prints themselves (as opposed to aquiring the new prints Toei had already restored & remastered for the Dragon Boxes & subsequent R2 indvidual releases) they also cropped the DBZ TV series & specials into 16:9 widescreen format, deeming it an aesthetic choice. That was, for many fans, the equivalent to George Lucas' decision to enhance the original Star Wars trilogy by releasing 'special editions' of Episodes 4, 5 & 6 (also an aesthetic choice). Sorry if was rambling, but I thought this question needed a thorough answer. Looks like someone else answered this already, but I still hope it helps. |

I'm also going to echo those who want to see Toradora picked up by Funimation. It's got everything going for it except for not being a "popular genre" so it's likely the lack of "popular genre" would push any other distributor of making it sub only which would be a horrible way to limit it's reach. It seems like only Funimation is actually interested in expanding the fanbase for anime. The others are perfectly happy to get whatever they can from the fansub viewers who want to buy sub-only dvds.

I also say yes to this and also I hope Funi or rightstuf gets Ef A Tale of Memories, Ef A Tale of Melodies, and Special A. If anybody ever gets these series its most likely either going to be one of these two companies |

Okay, I want to get something straight on the Dragon Box thing:
These will be released at 42 episodes a piece leading to 7 boxes at $80 MSRP a piece or $560 total. The ultimate editions ran 9 boxes at $50 MSRP for $450 So fans will spend over a hundred dollars more for the cenimeter at the top and bottom of the screen? I know that MSRP doesn't equal retail, but no matter, it's still more money for something very inconsequential. If it were any series but DBZ I'd think someone was out of their mind. Since it is DBZ however, points to funimation for reselling DBZ again. |

Redd the Sock, it more than that the quality difference between the dragon box and FUNi remaster of DBZ is drastically different, FUNi's at times can be so bright it's near an eye sore levels of brightness. and as for money I doubt I'll be able to buy this normally due to where I live but still a chance to own the dragon boxes of DBZ here in the states

Just wanted to quickly chime in with my gratefulness regarding Funimation not only giving the cast for Nabari no Ou today but the cast for Spice & Wolf so.. hooray for unexpected surprises! |
