Did ANN announce that the Terminator would be a regular role in Seto no Hanayome? Cause that's more than just a cameo.

The difference from Seto no Hanayome's Luna-Papa is that Luna-Papa is an unofficial parody. There have been many unofficial Terminator parodies in manga and anime. However, Doraemon's T-800 is an authorized cameo of the Terminator character.

Methinks this is one of those "unauthorized cameos" the Japanese like to insert into their media every once in a while.

There's something decidedly not-so-wholesome about seeing a shotgun-wielding man chasing after a children's cartoon character and his friend... Very Happy

"Official" meaning that the heads of the Terminator franchise have given approval for this? Cause I was looking for some sort of similar statement, but I could not find one.

It's obviously a promotional deal. A smart one, i'd say, since Doraemon is hugely popular in Japan (unlike this "Seto..").
ANN would be doomed if they had to announce every parody made in anime.

I agree with you. It is obviously promotional, but I just wanted to see if a statement has been made that proves such. I mean, Doraemon as you say, is huge. So I have to imagine eventually a statement from the franchise heads or whoever they delegate to write the statement will be made, if it isn't already.

As stated above, authorized. As the article's linked Oricon source says (as well as Hollywood Channel, Walker Plus, Ticket Pia, and the dozen other news sources reporting on this) this "special appearance" is the result of a collaboration between Hollywood and the Doraemon staff. According to Cinema Topics Online and some of the sources, it is specifically a Terminator Salvation tie-in.

There is an indirect aside to Seto no Hanayome. The same actor who played Seto's Luna-Papa, Tesshô Genda, also dubs over Arnold Schwarzenegger in most of his films, including the Terminator films. Gigazine notes that the voice for Doraemon's "Terrinanor" has not been announced, but thinks it will be Genda.

Thanks for that. If I could read Japanese then I could have found the answer without asking, so thanks for helping out with your links.

Very cool then, to see that an official crossover between a Hollywood icon and a Japanese animation icon.

I like how it... looks nothing like him. Japan fails at realism. Confused

Not to sound negative, but why does this remind me of how The Simpsons started leaning more and more on celebrity cameos over time?

I just love how Japan made this him look nothing like the original character. At least they didn't make him have gigantic eyes or holding a can of Beer in his left hand.
