My friend just finished watching the series and we were having a discussion regarding the ending (episodes 25 & 1). Well, I seem to think that the evil demon guy that Guts kills on the first episode is one of the Five demons like Griffith because the guy had a Behelit. And thus Guts will kill the Demons with the Behelits one by one until he reaches Griffith. My friend however, thinks that the Evil demon on the first episode is not like Griffith, but a lesser demon. He thinks this because the guys Behelit is not Red in color. We argued for a while, but I still think the Demon on the first episode is like Griffith. Lemme know what you guys think.[/b]

No, the snake was a lesser demon. When the god's hand appeared remember that many demons came to the scene, and don't forget about Zodd. They are all demons, but only Griffith is said to be the "sweet prince" and a "brother" to the four demon gods. It has been a while since I saw Berserk, but doesn't it say somewhere that Griffith was to rule over all the other demons? And is it just me or did that snake look an aweful lot like Griffith's torturer? Perhaps there is a story in that.

First of all, yes I always thought that demon looked alot like Griffiths torturer. But how do we know that he isnt one of the 5 demons, he has a Behelit. I'm not sure what to think now, lets hear some more.

*sigh* i have a lot of questions about berserk too and btw i know this forum has a title about spoilers here...but o well..great series but i wish there would be a second at least....to finish it off. I'd have to say the demon that Gutts killed in the beginning was one of the stronger demons that served the 5 powerful ones (those including Griffith). I also must argue with many of the ratings that people have given this film, if you look on lots of sites..17+..18+ only adults...and yes there is a good amount of blood, but its not that terrible. If you can handle blood, then the second episodes were said to have *very explicit nuidty scenes*. Some of these reviews make it sound like hentai or something...i mean you see breasts..but nothing beyond that....its fairly detailed but hey....its just a body.

First thing - you need to read the manga. Everything is explained there! Everything. But if you really wanna know:
Only those who are chosen by faith can obtain the behelit. Only they will get to keep it and in their time, the Four God Hand demons will decend and ask for a sacrifice.. the most important thing to them. Then after recieving the sacrifice the Four God Hand will give the behelit bearer an immortal body and the ability to transform in its true form (you could see that the guy transformed into a big snake monster - after you`ve been blessed by the demons you become a lesser demon yourself). Those who recieved the cursed blessing are know as the Apostoles or the Desciples. HOWEVER!! Griffith is not a Disciple. Griffith is special. He has been chosen by Idea (a god of some sort born from the evilness of humans) to become the NEXT God Hand!! So now - there are Five God Hand, including Griffith. Everything clear?
It works like this: Idea --> God Hand (ex. Grifftih) --> The Disciples (ex. The Snake Guy).
It is all in the manga.

There is no connection between the count (snake guy) in episode 1 and the turtorer. In the anime the likeness of the turtorer was changed from the manga where he was a deformed midget.
By the way where do you get this Idea fella from? I don't remember mention of anyone above the god hand in the manga so far.

It's from the lost chapter. I think it was volume part of volume 12 or 13.
It wasn't originally meant to be included so it's debatable whether it is really relavent or not.

Well Idea does exist. You cant deny that and it was "it" that gave Griffith the "demon wings" if you dont mind me speaking so poetically But even if Idea didn't exist I think I covered the question pretty good. At least in my oppinion.

Plain and simple the ending was not an ending but a beginning or at least it was in the manga. Remember that everything happening before the killing of the count is just a flashback. In the manga the story first really starts sometimes after the eclipse. Furthermore I read somewhere that the author of the manga has said that the story first really starts after Gutts obtains the berserker armour, which he does in volume 26. To put things in perspective the Berserk anime only covers the manga to Volume 13 and it even leaves out about a volume worth of stuff.

I rather liked the ending, regardless of whether you read the manga or not. The manga _is_ very good, but i think the TV show stands on its own as its own very good story. It's more about how I story begins... I found that interesting-- how Guts became who he was in the first episode. There's no resolution between him and Griffith, but that wasn't the point to me.
Anyways, the manga is worth reading, but I try and keep the two seperate. Frankly, I thought the anime did some things that improved on the manga (which I know is sacrilege to most of the manga readers, but oh well)-- much in the way the LOTR movies did some things that I liked better than the books. Mostly, the anime cut out a lot of endless chop em up gore, and took out a lot of the pointless tit and ass. Other than that, it pretty much stuck to the manga, with a few changes. Still, if you want to know where the story goes, the manga is worth checking into-- although they've only released the first 5 volumes in the US, which is like the first 10 episodes of the show or something. You have to hunt online for scans, etc. All very taboo. !!
As for Idea-- yes, it appeared when it was originally released, but Miura cut it from the compiled volumes, which I think was his way of saying it was a mistake that he didn't want included. But hey, whatever, it's an interesting concept. To each their own.
