It's kind of a shame. I was curious about this game since using motion controls as a replacement for the somewhat legendary Steel Battalion controller seemed like a clever idea. Unfortunately, just about every review of the game will tell you that it doesn't work.

Is the Kinect capable of recognizing patterns on a mat? Because it seems like the thing to do would've been to include printouts of the controls and just use markings on them to decide what switch you wanted to toggle.

Once again the scores don't add up to the overall score.

once again, the overall score isn't based on an average.
I remember playing the first steel battalion and it had a nice novelty aspect to it. It really is a shame it turned out like this .

Dammit, they should've just used the f*ck-huge controller again. Kinect can buzz off and die.

oh, another motion-control i will never touch.
it's a shame. i like the seemingly realistic approach but instead of trying to make a game that looks good and is playable it seems that they invested a lot of time and work into making kinect-based controls. well yeah, the novelty's worn the f**k off by now.

Well, it's not surprising, given the Kinect was made for Western players in mind and not for Japanese ones. Maybe From Software should researched the Kinect better instead of simply releasing this crap at all.

This was something that should have been found out in game testing. Or maybe it was, but by then it was already too late to fix this problem.

Don't blame discrimination for poor software development. Besides, Sony released the PS2 Eyetoy a decade ago, and Nintendo was the one that popularized motion controls, so Japan would had undoubtedly released their own if they weren't beaten to it first.

The problem was the initial concept, not a developers early oversight. The Kinect isn't sensitive enough to detect anything but gross motions. The fine actions required for something as complex looking as the dashboard of your mech in SB would require a drastic improvement in the technology.

Or maybe it's because the Kinect is the dumbest piece of shit ever concieved since the Virtual Boy.

but hey, apparently they got some piece of the casual gamers' ass. i say f**k motion control. it's nothing but a gimmick and the few good motion controlled games i've come across are just as good with a regular controller.

As someone who played the abortion that was Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, you'd be amazed at what can slip by the bug testing people sometimes.
