According to Jerry Chu at AWA, that was still one of their top selling product lines. Hm, does anyone else think that Bandai's attempt to cram the same three G Gundam action figures down the throat of every retailer in the country might have been a contributing factor?

The loss in US currency is $23.3 million dollars (based on 115Y to $1 US). The current economy is what is to blame for the overall dismal sales. Power Ranges is dead here in the US, so that contributed a small amount.

Yup Power Rangers is dead in the U.S. It's height of popularity was in the mid 90's up to 1998. But since then it's gone downhill. Kids now don't wear Power Rangers for costumes in Halloween nor buy toys. lol This reminds me of my friend who wore a Red Power Ranger suit when we were kids. He still has a picture of him posing like a power ranger.

Upon seeing the dismal sales figures for Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers merchandise, to ease the pain, Bandai USA board members injected themselves with a few shots of Mighty Morphine.

What the heck are you talking about? Gangsta rap never fell off, G-unit is still going strong with the Game's latest released album. Not to mention dipolmat with thier hit joint certified gangster. In other words, don't assume what you don't understand. It's like a geek who never played or watch basketball in his life trying to tell someone else the downfall of basketball. |

A person who lives and breathes the game is in the worst position to argue about the games position in the bigger picture. In fact, a geek who had never played the came could very well be in a much better position to comment on the downfall of the game in terms of the revenue it brings in, the number of people attending games at high school through professional levels, the amount of time consecrated to the game at high school and public gyms / yards and so forth. The player thinks the game is the only thing in the world, because its the only thing in his world. Same goes for Gangsta Rap. I'm in no position to comment on its place in the world, but do you know what % of top 100 singles in the past year, compared to 5 years ago were gangsta rap? Do you know how many people attended Gangsta Rap concerts in large arenas and small clubs this past year compared to 5 years ago? If you don't, then you are in no position to comment, with any authority, on the state of gangsta raps popularity. However someone who has never heard a single gangsta rap, but does study these numbers, even if he's a loser geek that listens to elevator music, is in a position to comment on gangsta rap "falling off." Likewise, someone who knows what gangsta rap is, but generally watches and listens to mainstream music outlets, and shops at mainstream music stores, is probably in a better position to comment on the death of gangsta rap than someone who listens to "G-Rap Radio," watches "G-Rap TV" and buys his CDs at the "gangsta shop." In the large scale of things, gangsta rap, Power Rangers, Basket ball, and anime could have tens of thousands hardcore fans who live and breath the topic, but still be "dieing off." I'm in no place to comment on any of those (well, I'd be willing to bet, although I'm no expert, that basketball isn't dieing, even if it might be undergoing a small slump) except anime. Bandai could score several more dollars off of me if they re-released "Love Hina" with my kind of subtitles (undomesticated, with Japanese honorifics).
 And if Bandai brings "Keroro Gunsou" to the US, they should do the same thing. That will ensure it takes a higher place on my "must buy" list.

I saw at least 20 kids at the local mall dressed up as The Red or Blue Dino Thunder Rangers during Halloween last week or so. And they were smart enough to identify me as a character from Resident Evil. |

Yes, PR is still being sold, visit the toy aisle sometime!
If PR didn't sell, it wouldn't still be sold. Doesn't mean they sell like they used to, though!
Remember, BoA released toys from Gundam, SD, PR, Knights of the Zodic, Astroboy and Teen Titans, ALL in 2004. That's a lot of different lines, so any combinations of those could have resulted in their losses. Plus, they LOVE to experiment with new toys that fail. I.E. Xyber9, Jagun, etc. D.I.C.E. is likely next. Also, They keep trying to force the Gundam model kits down our throats, I used to see piles of model kits in Kmart&Walmart... |

Its true. Gangsta Rap did fall off. And Game is a big joke. Dude learned how to MC 3 years ago. I could name about 300 underground MCs that would rip him to shreds. The fact these jokers are given such oportunities is embarasing, with the amount of over-looked talent in hip hop. Dre and Eminem made Goon-Unit and that is a fact. |
