I tried watching the English dub of it and I switched it off in about 2 minutes cause the narration sucked. Then, I watched the Japanese version and I switched it off because I couldn't stand the sight of Kira Yamato. But, should I give it another chance? Is it any good? I've seen Lacus beforehand and she's really pretty!(for a cartoon anyways).

[EDIT: Changed SEED to its proper spelling since it actually is an acronym for something. -TK]

*sigh*

Listen, there are only two viable answers here: yes and no. If what you're looking for is an overall consensus on what others may or may not enjoy, you could potentially miss out something you will enjoy.

I recommend you watch it yourself and form your own opinion.

If you can't stand Kira, don't bother giving it another try.

Yeah, if you can't stand Kira already then it's going to be a tough sell trying to get you to watch the rest. If you're still curious or questioning whether or not you're missing something good then feel free to give it three more episodes. I personally enjoyed Seed (and haven't seen Destiny), but that doesn't mean you will or should enjoy it. These foruns are filled with such disagreements, even over classics.

Short answer: Watch a bit of it and form your own opinion (tell us what you think!).

And if you like Lacus so much but hate the show, there are ways around that Laughing .

Kira does become more willing to fight and more proficient at fighting as the series progresses. There are other developments that make many of the vocal viewers like him less, but you may find yourself liking him more. Overall, though, if you already dislike the protagonist that much in the first few episodes, then I'd say drop it.

Try Heroic Age if you like ogling Lacus. Razz

Guys, liking the feedback here. Also, I'm gonna watched it subbed at first, despite the fact I have a rule that anything Ocean dubbed takes precedence. I'm still mainly watching it for Lacus though.

I actually like SEED a lot. Some hardcore Gundam fans say that it's a ripoff of the original 0079 series, but I see it as more of a re-visioning of the concepts. Kira's not nearly as bad as you make him out to be and actually wises up quite a bit as the series progresses. The music is also spectacular from all the OP/ED themes down to the most miniscule of background scores and is a very big reason I enjoy the series so much.

Dubbing-wise, I didn't care for it a whole lot. As much as I love the voice pool that Ocean-Vancouver has, SEED's dub isn't nearly as compelling as Wing, or even 00's. Not sure where the miscommunication came from, but the Japanese cast is pretty loaded with grade-A seiyuu if you're familiar with the names.

The one thing that might bug you, though, is the overall production. The character designs have this "thing" that the designer likes to do where everyone basically has the same face with no nose and only different-colored hair and eyes to really tell anyone apart. I personally can't stand the monotony of Hirai's designs, so you'll really have to work on getting over it. The animation also tends to look awkward here and there because of the industry's transition into digital animation at the time, which didn't look that great when I saw it on DVD some years ago, but I also had a badd-ish TV, so maybe I'm over-exaggerating that one.

But above all else, don't watch SEED Destiny. After finishing SEED, I'd suggest you just read the spoilers in this thread and save yourself the disappointment.

Agree with Tony on the dub. Usually Gundam series have a good to great dubbing but SEED kind of is just very bland and boring. I personally couldnt get past 12 episodes. Then again I really have not liked anything past Zeta.

I'd agree with Tony, for the most part (I actually enjoyed Destiny, at least the stuff in the latter half).

For me, what it comes down to is this: In most Gundam series, the characters are moved by the plot. The events are, for the most part, out of their direct control, and they're pawns in a bigger game. In SEED, it's the other way around. The characters realize that they're pawns, and say "screw this" and take control.

I find Gundam Seed to be a joke compared to Gundam Wing and G-Gundam. How this is one of the top selling series in Japan, I don't have a clue?

Same! How was G-Gundam or Gundam Wing only a modest success there, but SEED was huge? Japan's not normal. Why was those two more popular in the States than Japan, and how did Wing one of the most underrated Gundam series in Japan, manage to be tied with DBZ and even exceed it in Toonami views? Cause Japanese people are weird people. Thank God I left there a long time ago!

I consider Seed to be an excellent example of how to change your story in mid-plot. It actually changes things for the better, the characters are improved (in particular Dearka is given a personality), and the script really improves.

I even like Gundam Seed Destiny mainly because I think it's one of the few anime that actually says something intelligent about politics, and Durandal is an amazing character.

Though Wing may be better, SEED is still very very good. But this comes from a general Gundam fan(I have yet to watch a show from the franchise I didn't like) so I don't know how valid my judgement is. I also enjoyed SEED Destiny a lot. Granted, dear Mr. Zala and Shinn annoyed me to no end in the first but it was fun watching Kira and the gang being renegades. Also, the fact that Lacus was a little more badass than in SEED did a lot for me.
