That's weird. I got my copy of the Squid Girl blu-ray on April 18th from amazon. |

I've got a question kind of relating to this: When do English manga publishers tend to announce their licenses? Is it random or are there certain events where they talk about it? I know that Comic Con had some licenses revealed last year, so I'm definitely waiting on this year's.
This is because I want to start collecting some series in Japanese, but I'd rather have them in English. I don't want to buy a whole series, then have the license unveiled the next day, and I also don't want to sit on my hands for a year crossing my fingers 'so and so' gets licensed. |

I don't know if there's a super-easy "wait for this event where everything is announced" answer. Usually publishers will make announcements at panels of major cons—Yen Press and dark horse did so at Sakura-Con (and Vertical at both MangaNEXT and Anime Boston) this spring, and there are usually announcements at SDCC in the summer and NYCC in the fall (there may be others; I just browsed through a few of the convention reports in ANN's news archive). But frequently a title may just pop up in an Amazon listing (after which it may or may not be confirmed by the publisher), and I think DMP announces stuff every so often in emails.
So... I hope that helps. There really have been times I picked up a couple volumes of a title in Japanese, only to have it announced a couple days or a week later. I just tell myself it's nice to get an early preview, since announcements are usually for books that won't be out for several months at least :) |

Okay, thanks
Guess I'll hold off on buying major things until summer. There's some manga I'm sure won't be getting licensed so I can also grab those in the mean time, aaand it's not like I'll be finished getting all the English stuff I want for a while. |

Yes, it is odd. When I read that I thought maybe the Squid Girl Blu-ray's were sitting in a warehouse waiting for a check to clear. But, it just may have been a SNAFU plain & simple. Mark Gosdin |
