Looks like we'll be getting Love Hina and Tokyo Mew Mew omnibuses- I'm guessing MM will be 2 vols, while Love HIna will be 3 given the pricing. Nice to see both hits coming back to the market, and it leaves me wondering if we'll see more revivals of better selling Kodansha OOP titles from TP's catalogue [and I imagine also some from Del Rey's as their back catalogue stock dries up].

Also, they've scheduled both the first volume of Sailor Moon and Codename: Sailor V for Sept. Hadn't figured they'd release V right away, so this is quite nice

Can't wait till these pop up in Previews!

Meanwhile, looks like Del Rey Manga's not entirely gone, as they'll be handling original titles

I wonder what possessed them to bring back Tokyo Mew Mew of all things and not something more universally praised but still popular, like, say, Kodocha? Maybe they're just getting to it and re-releasing older titles is a good way for them to get a foot in, I'm just wondering if they couldn't pick better ones for re-release then Tokyo Mew Mew. I'm giving Love Hina a pass despite the contempt I see for it everywhere on the basis that it's a good gateway title to manga in general from what I hear. Nothing against Sailor Moon, that seems a wise chioce, but they're selling it for less than I expected they would, so I might be willing to look into it. Seems the fans have been crying for reprints on that for ages, now that that and Utena DVDs have been fulfilled, wonder when anyone will get to Cardcaptor Sakura anime and Sailor Moon anime.

Viz could really take a hint from Kodansha though and maybe reprint Basara or Banana Fish or Please Save My Earth or something, no?

Kodocha is actually a Shueisha title manga#1563 Kodansha would only have access to TP titles that were originally theirs whose rights have reverted back to them. Bug VIZ about Kodocha reprints Smile

Tokyo Mew Mew seemed to be popular enough- Tokyopop did translate the assorted sequel series, and it also had a TV broadcasted anime- yes, an edited kids one, but on network tv nevertheless.

The reorganized Sailor Moon volumes aren't really omnibuses- they have maybe an extra 50 pages or so each, so I imagine that's within the right range to keep pricing at 10.99. There's lots of 200+ page collections around that size.

I imagine VIZ reprinting PSME/Basara/BananaFish depends on how good their sales were in their original runs or if the editors involved want to push for it. I think VIZ mentioned at C2E2 that they have a number of 25th anniversary projects planned, no idea of the specifics though [no one seems to have posted panel coverage w/specifcs though- just going by what Heidi MacDonald has said on comicsbeat.com and her twitter]

Ah, probably should've looked into Kodocha not being Kodansha (and their names are so similar too), for some reason I assumed that everything they lose the rights too a few years back was (well, an awful lot of it was, so it wasn't too unreasonable on my part). that means we'll probably never get a reprint of that then, unless someone can get the rights to that for really cheap).

Ooh? Viz has some special anniversary stuff in mine, eh? Here's hoping!

Keep in mind that Shueisha is one of the japanese companies whom invested in VIZ [VIZ was originally a Shogakukan division, who licensed from assorted pubs, but when Shonen Jump was launched Shuiesha became a partner], so VIZ probably has access to Kodocha, but that all depends on if they want to re-release it, and they would of course have to license it from the original author again.

Kodansha is confirmed to be the best publisher of 2011.

I want You're My Pet (aka Tramps Like Us). It's impossible to find all 14 volumes of the Tokyopop edition.

Oh, and GTO of course.

Even though Tokyo Mew Mew was a mediocre series, it was my very first manga I'd ever bought, so there's a good possibility I'll be sinking money into this.

So excited for the Sailor Moon too, btw. Smile
