Genius Party is probably a poor comparison. Don't let the fact it appeals to animation nerds distract you from the fact that it is aiming for a far broader audience than most anime TV series.

With the proper marketing campaign it won't have to worry about hardcore anime fans, as it should catch that broader audience out there who make things like Afro Samurai a success.
