Round 3 Group B is now closed.
Final scores can be found here. Although Outlaw Star staged a bit of a comeback late, the only match that was even remotely competitive was A-27, where Pumpkin Scissors notched a narrow upset of Hotel Moscow. Disappointingly, only 18 people voted this time. Next round may take a little while, as one of the Guide pics has unexpectedly gone defunct and needs to be replaced. Should be up within the hour, though. |

Round 3 Group C is now closed.
Don't forget, video clips are available now on the linked Guide pages. Use them if you're not familiar with the group! And one warning, since this was a bit of an issue last time: any justifications of votes for Ala Alba must be strictly based only on material that has been animated and released to date. I will get very, very picky about this. (I would also appreciate it if someone could either PM me with a detailed summary of what has happened so far in the released OVAs or direct me to a site which has said summaries.) Group C-25 Akatsuki, Naruto vs. Sailor Scouts, Sailor Moon franchise Winner: Sailor Scouts Total: 14-2 Group C-26 Ala Alba, Negima! OVAs vs. MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise Winner: MITHRIL Total: 13-3 Group C-27 Nirvana Crew, Vandread vs. Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club Winner: OHSHC Total: 11-5 Group C-28 Mew Mews, Tokyo Mew Mew vs. Band of the Hawk, Berserk Winner: Tie Total: 8-8 Last edited by Key on Tue Nov 24, 2009 12:08 am; edited 1 time in total |

Back to voting early this time!
Group C-25 Akatsuki, Naruto vs. Sailor Scouts, Sailor Moon franchise The Akatsuki seem to have a decent organization, but they feel more like a group of loosely-affiliated individuals than an actual team. Their opponents, the Sailor Scouts, are a team. Group C-26 Ala Alba, Negima! OVAs vs. MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise Ala Alba may have its merits, but the amount of material available so far offers a limited foundation. MITHRIL, OTOH, is not only well-established and well-explored, but they are also an efficient military-style organization who can get things done that others can't. Group C-27 Nirvana Crew, Vandread vs. Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club This one's a bit harder, since the Nirvana crew does ultimately rely on a goodly amount of teamwork to succeed. The Host Club just has too strong a comic flair, and works too smoothly both as a group and within its group dynamics, to be denied this early, however. Group C-28 Mew Mews, Tokyo Mew Mew vs. Band of the Hawk, Berserk Not much familiar with either group. The Band of the Hawk has had arguments for and against in the past; what about the Mew Mews? I'm pretty much looking for an excuse to vote against the Band of the Hawk here, but until given one they have my vote. |

Results. A lot of people took a hit with Hotel Moscow's loss, but that's just part of it. Overall the round was pretty rough, but mostly the rankings remain unchanged. Olliff did manage to extend his lead, and is now leading with 125 points, 14 ahead of second place, and guaranteed to finish in the top half of the mini-game no matter what.

Group C-25
Akatsuki, Naruto vs. Sailor Scouts, Sailor Moon franchise Sticking with my Sailor Scouts through thick and though thin, these girls are there for each other, no matter what. Group C-26 Ala Alba, Negima! OVAs vs. MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise MITHRIL they come across as a better team and organization that AlaAlba. Group C-27 Nirvana Crew, Vandread vs. Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club While I do love both of these groups, I'm going to have to go with Ouran for the smoother dynamics and how easily they accepted a new member. Group C-28 Mew Mews, Tokyo Mew Mew vs. Band of the Hawk, Berserk I'm going to go with the Mew Mews because of previous arguements against the Hawks. Plus, they're cuter. |

Group C-25
Voting for: Sailor Scouts, Sailor Moon franchise Reasons: As I said before, it's going to take a very special team to take my vote away from the Sailor Scouts. Akatsuki is not that team. Group C-26 Voting for:MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise Reasons: It just sounds like these guys are all and all better developed than the other team. Group C-27 Voting for:Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club Reasons: Another very strong group that it would take a lot for me to vote against. Group C-28 Voting for:Mew Mews, Tokyo Mew Mew I'm still a bit confused as to why Band of the Hawk is still here, with all the arguments made against them in previous rounds. I'm hoping this will be round to finally change that (though I still think it should have happened in round one). |

Group C-25
Akatsuki, Naruto vs. Sailor Scouts, Sailor Moon franchise Voting for: Sailor Scouts Reason: While Akatuki is the more varied and interesting team, they don't often function well as a group. Actually, several members have their own agendas that could work against the overall goal of the group. The scouts win by default here. Group C-26 Ala Alba, Negima! OVAs vs. MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise Voting for: MITHRIL Reason: MITHRIL functions well as an armed group, has great interactions between it's members, and performs well on a tactical level as well. They are arguably the strongest team in this weaker-than-average bracket in my opinion. Group C-27 Nirvana Crew, Vandread vs. Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club Voting for: Host Club Reason: I enjoyed Vandread, but they don't jump out in my mind as a very strong team, I'll go with the flow on this one and vote with the majority. Group C-28 Mew Mews, Tokyo Mew Mew vs. Band of the Hawk, Berserk Voting for: Band of the Hawk Reason: I can see where some of the criticism for the Hawks comes from. Their downfall is amongst the most brutal, tragic and shocking scenes from anything I've ever seen. However, this does not change the fact that this group rises from a simple band of mercenaries to become the strongest and most effective fighting force in the kingdom. No human foes ever bested them, each unit was united under strong leadership, and even in the darkest moments of their downfall, shining lights of heroism and sacrifice stand well above anything their competition has to offer. This match should not even be close. |

Group C-25
Voting for: Sailor Scouts, Sailor Moon franchise Reasons: It is going to take a lot to take down the Sailor Scouts, and this villain team from Naruto doesn't have it. It could even be argued that Sailor Scouts have legacy due to their influence on other magical girl teams to come, but then again I don't think the sentai genre is particularity strong anymore. Group C-26 Voting for:MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise Reasons:I honestly don't know much about either one of these teams. Last round, someone made some comments in support of them, too. From the clips, both teams seem strong. I know their foes have at least one very vocal supporter, but I am not sure if that will be enough. Group C-27 Voting for:Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club Reasons: Running an escort business in high school is pretty difficult . Well, these guys are the only silly team that has a chance to make it far in this tournament. They are tightly-knit, they have a strong sense of team identity, and they have interesting dynamics, and they are incredibly smooth. Group C-28 Voting for:Mew Mews, Tokyo Mew Mew I'm going to throw my vote out to a team that I know nothing about. While Band of Hawk certainly has their strengths, they have too many flaws to advance at this point of the tournament. |

Match C-25: Sailor Scouts (Sailor Moon)
Akatsuki mostly operates in pairs and a good number of the members get in enough fights with one another. This severely hampers their chances against the more unified Sailor Scouts. Match C-26: MITHRIL (Full Metal Panic) Not enough has been explored of Ala Alba yet in the anime which hurts them against MITHRIL. Match C-27: Nirvana crew (Vandread) The Host Club have better chemistry. But the Vandread crew have greater development, larger numbers to coordinate which do well in combat and grander goals that involve saving the galaxy compared to the Host Club's profiting and cosplaying. Match C-28: Mew Mews (Tokyo Mew Mew) I think I've supported Band of the Hawk long enough. The Mew Mews seem like a fun bunch from what I've read up on them. |

Group C-25
Akatsuki, Naruto vs. Sailor Scouts, Sailor Moon franchise Supporting the Sailor Scouts for their togetherness and their short skirts. Group C-26 Ala Alba, Negima! OVAs vs. MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise Supporting MITHRIL because they're a solid, effective group which functions much more cohesively than Ala Alba. Group C-27 Nirvana Crew, Vandread vs. Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club Supporting OHSHC, because limited goals don't make a team weaker -- you don't have to have grand world-saving ambitions to be a good team. Group C-28 Mew Mews, Tokyo Mew Mew vs. Band of the Hawk, Berserk Supporting the Mew Mews because I like them, and because, frankly, I'd support nearly anyone over the Band of the Hawk. Well, maybe not NERV. That would be a real dilemma. - abunai EDIT: Typo. Last edited by abunai on Wed Nov 18, 2009 10:23 am; edited 1 time in total |

Guess I'm gonna have to pitch for the Nirvana crew.
The major factors that have me going for the Nirvana crew over the Host Club are their larger numbers, greater developments and the bigger goals that they have to contend with. As made clear in the description, the Nirvana crew consists mostly of women outlaws with three men aboard following the attack by the women on the Tarak military. At first, many within both genders were hostile towards one another as both their home worlds are at war with one another and think of each other as an alien race. The mostly female crew take the men as prisoners at first. But upon realizing they are far away from their home worlds and dealing with the Harvest fleet, the women begrudgingly allow the men to serve as temporary crew members to cooperate in reaching their home worlds and warning them of the Harvest ships. Over time, both sides grow more accepting of one another as the men prove their worth to the women and both genders start thinking of the possibilities of men and women being able to live together as Vandread progresses, especially as they come across planets where men and women live together without any conflict. Their unity proves strong enough towards the later episodes of Vandread's second season spoiler[where both sides defy the gender-centered beliefs of their home worlds and the influence of Hibiki and Magno lead both their home planets to cooperate together to deal with the incoming Harvest fleet ships. Following the demise of the Harvest ships, both planets want to learn of how men and women live together thanks to the cooperation that the men and women aboard the Nirvana had with one another in their journey.] Beyond the use of the Vanguard and Dread pilots cooperating together in dealing with enemy forces on the battlefield, the many members of the Nirvana crew have their roles to help cooperate with everyone else aboard the ship. Duero and Parfet work together to uncover more details on the nature of the Paksis that controls the power of the Nirvana. Gascogne and her Registry crew help provide weaponry to the Dread ships when they need to reload in the middle of any heated battles. Bart controls the steering and combat systems of the Nirvana. Magno, Buzam and Gascogne serve as the leaders of the crew who direct the actions of what everyone aboard does next and provide sagely advice to those that need it. The Nirvana crew's journey consists of two goals: returning to their home worlds and warning them of the incoming Harvest fleets. Everyone aboard works together in these goals knowing full well that their lives are at risk as they are targeted by Harvest ships and help those whom they encounter while on their journey. As the Nirvana crew keep encountering the Harvest fleet, the alien threats grow more stronger to adapt to the attacks of the Nirvana, Dreads and Vandread forms which further raise the risks of the Nirvana's journey. Despite the increasing difficulty, the Nirvana crew continued to persevere in their journey as they pushed to arrive to Mejar and Tarak. |

Group C-25
Sailor Scouts, Sailor Moon franchise Teamwork is the major fundamental of the Sailor Scouts, and they pull it off well. It would take a lot to beat them out. Group C-26 MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise I'm not particularly familiar with either team, but the impression I've been getting through arguments is that they've made a stronger showing as a team in the animated material. Group C-27 Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club These guys have such a strong dynamic they're going to be pretty hard to beat out. They work quite brilliantly together. Group C-28 Mew Mews, Tokyo Mew Mew The ultimate outcome of the Band of Hawk really weakens any argument about how they function as a team. As the Mew Mews lack such a glaring flaw, they get my vote. |

Round C-25
Akatsuki, Naruto vs Sailor Scouts (Inner), Sailor Moon Voting for: Akatsuki Because: Somewhat of a pity vote, as Akatsuki seems to be pretty well organized and somewhat democratic for a villain group. Also, the video clip for Sailor Moon having the leader whine and mope while the other scouts are utterly useless against the villain doesn't help. Round C-26 Ala Alba, Negima! OVAs vs MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic franchise Voting for: Ala Alba Because: Staying with Ala Alba because the girls join the club voluntarily despite the risks because they care that much about Negi and each other. I know MITHRIL is going to win, so I'm not going to waste time arguing against them. Round C-27 Nirvana crew, Vandread vs Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club Voting for: Nirvana crew Because: While the Host Club has a fun dynamic to them, they don't strike me as much more than any other group of close friends in anime. Plus, besides Tamaki being the club president and Kyoya being the one in charge, their only roles are to play up their character stereotypes. Everyone in the Nirvana crew has a specific job (except Paiway), and they rely on each other to achieve their various goals and objectives. They overcome internal conflicts and become stronger as a result. Also, I didn't notice this until writing up my reasoning just now, but I tend to forget about Haruhi when mentally listing the members of the Host Club. Kind of a strike against when I forget the lead character of a show isn't a member of the club. Round C-28 Mew Mews, Tokyo Mew Mew vs Band of the Hawk, Berserk Voting for: Band of the Hawk Because: The Mew Mews so far have coasted through the early rounds due to incredibly weak competition. While the Band of the Hawk may have a fatal weakness, they demonstrated excellent teamwork before that incident, and I'm not going to vote against them without some sort of explanation as to why the Mew Mews are anything more than an average group of magical girls. |

Group C-25
Akatsuki, Naruto vs. Sailor Scouts, Sailor Moon franchise - Akatsuki Don't really like naruto but just can't bring myself to vote sm. Still the Akatsuki have that kind of "dark brotherhood" atmosphere and i can dig that. Group C-26 Ala Alba, Negima! OVAs vs. MITHRIL, Full Metal Panic! franchise MITHRIL I really liked how the characters complemented each other and worked as a team no one really felt left out or uneeded. And I liked how many varying personality types seemed to still get along well. Group C-27 Nirvana Crew, Vandread vs. Ouran High School Host Club, Ouran High School Host Club Nirvana Crew, Vandread Not seen much of either Anime however as vandread looks more my sort and i kinda like cool ship crews my vote goes to them. Group C-28 Mew Mews, Tokyo Mew Mew vs. Band of the Hawk, Berserk Band of the Hawk, Berserk I really liked the camraderie and tactical thaught that went into the Band of the Hawk. And the tight bond they developed as they faught through numerous battles. spoiler[ This is what made the ending so harrowing as it was a betrayal of simply monumental proportions ] That better Key ? Welcome to the tournament! Do be aware, though, that this round requires people to justify their votes and this is not in any way a justification. Your votes will not be counted unless one is added in here. |
