What's your issue on that series apart from the author's perversion?

Isn't it ironic that it is not a moe anime/manga creator is busted for CP, but one of manga's biggest, and even Shounen, creators is done in for this?

All of that pondering aside, as much as I love RuRo Ken, Watsuki really didn't catch on for me after the series as a mangaka. I did like Gunblaze West, and his art is still cool, but other series he did was very hit or miss for me, and they were all misses. He should have improved his skills and not focused on getting his kicks off.

I need to plant my forehead into my palms, take a hot shower, stare at the ceiling for five minutes, and let my mind go blank during that time. As if this day couldn't get any worse.

They kind of already have an outlet for their urges in form of cute lolis.
Nobuhiro couldn't really afford jumping on lolicon manga bandwagon as he was behind the respectable popular series.

Welp, close-minded, aren't we? In such case that you can easily tie rape, violence, molesting to just keeping DVD's, then I don't see any salvation in this world. I can really understand where people are coming from. Of course, keeping such things are kinda awful and disgusting, but go easy on the judgment. Watsuki may have admitted he liked young girls, but that doesn't automatically make him a rapist, child molester and anything. There are many kinds of pervert who doesn't go further than just obsessing from afar. Sure, they are pitiful people though.

I want to clarify, per the article:

Quote:
Authorities searched Watsuki's home as part of a different investigation, which linked him to the purchase of DVDs with child pornography.

Presumably this means Watsuki did in fact purchase the material he was found to be possessing. In other words, he enriched distributors who are involved in the production of child porn, thereby economically facilitating and stimulating further activity of that nature. This is where I say his alleged crime becomes very serious. As I mentioned in another post, perhaps he and society would be better served by his rehabilitation rather than traditional imprisonment; however, that's another discussion.

With that said, fans of Watsuki's work will all find their own answers for how they continue to associate with it. For my part, I only ever watched the anime and its contemporary OVAs. As it happens, they had been on my mind recently! Inevitably, those memories will be soured somewhat by this news, but a good story is still a good story. Particularly since it was one from my early fan days. I hope your manga volumes won't stay buried, either.

Eeh, this will blow over. Why I believe that you may ask?

Well, the creator of Toriko, Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro, actually acted upon his 'desire' with a 16-year old prostitute and people who still love Toriko still admit to being fans of it and talk about it.

And Shimabukuro is FRIENDS with Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, one of the biggest manga series of all time if not THE biggest. They collaborated together AFTER Shimabukuro was sentenced but Oda's relationship with him doesn't seem to be hurting One Piece's sales or his reputation like it would have if he were somebody else. In fact, it seems like people just put it behind them and moved on.

Just to clarify, one piece is the biggest manga of all time not one of them. Cool

I think JDude is referring to the prohibitively expensive prices for the anime DVDs.

I think it is in very poor taste that accusations are being made about other mangaka because of their drawings. This thread is about a serious crime involving children who will suffer life long trauma because of what was done to them. I get that some people want to throw poop at certain mangaka because of their drawings but that really shouldn't be done in this thread.

REGARDLESS, biggest or not, Oda collaborated and maintains a friendship with a convicted pedo and it's not affecting One Piece's popularity. Likely because the issue blew over and the same will probably happen in this case.

Annnddd this is what happens when you don't realize the term "Physician, heal thyself!" As much as the urge for children is wrong beyond vernacular expression, at least ridding the urge through art is better than purchasing real CP and worse, actual activity. At least then one could burn it and stow it away than publishing it. Hell, there are real grown women into their 30s and 40s who don't look like they've aged since their teens out there. Going for actual young girls who are still growing and still learning about the world for their "purity" is a sick and delusional desire.

Thankfully I can separate the art from the artist and the book from the author in this case. To help others, "Listen to a person when they give beneficial things, do not pay heed to their actions. Their wisdom is born of experience, and the life they lead is that of their own." I am not helping him bail out though. Watsuki's on his own.

I believe they're talking about Daisuke Namikawa having an affair with a teenager? (That or the whole Scott Freeman thing but that news is really old at this point.) Yeah, this one got brushed by so quickly, I barely remember seeing it in the news.

Well I won't get rid of anything I already own (I wouldn't want to make a rash decision like that) but I don't think I will be buying anything new from this series. And I do think I will box up the manga that has on my shelf for so long. Right now I just don't want the series to have a prominent space on my shelf. Yes the series is not the manga-ka and yet when I see it I will think of what he is associated with. I just can't help myself.

Are you freaking kidding me?! It’s bad enough we had to lose all our faith in the people over here in the West, but come on. I never was a fan of Rurouni Kenshin, but celebrities should know better in general.

For me RK will continue being my favorite manga of all time and in my shelf forever!
I can't associate the work with personal issues from the author, this won't diminish the valor of the series .
Such disappoint news, just when a new arc started ...i feel bad for his wife Sad
If Watsuki is guilty then i hope he will pay for his crime
