Best Duo Tournament: RESULTS.

And I am very happy that enough people came to their sense to give Jinto and Lafiel the win.

Renji & Chihiro won! Wow. While I had been hoping for that, I wasn't expecting it. I was also a little surprised at how strongly people were campaigning for Jinto and Lafiel.

Whee, 14 points for the mini-game, and the two I missed were only 2 and 4 votes apart. Only one of this misses by default costs me a point for the third round, although the three-way match-up doesn't look like it'll help my selection.

I expected the Excel Saga to go much further than it did. I have clearly underestimated the distaste some of you have for this series. I suppose it does cater to an acquired taste.

(A cookie to the person who remembers who she beat by only two votes, and it wasn't in one of the later rounds.)

I'm excited about the turn-out, too. Maybe the less spoilerish nature of duo pairings is encouraging more to participate?

Anyway, of the final results, the one that surprises me the most is Robin and Amon edging out Gennosuke and Oboro. I thought Robin/Amon was maybe the weakest and most tenuous pairing in the whole group, so I consider this a bit of an upset. The one that disappoints me the most is Ross and Armitage losing to Ash and Pikachu, but that doesn't surprise me since the latter duo probably have the greatest name recognition of any duo in the entire tournament. And I am very happy that enough people came to their sense to give Jinto and Lafiel the win.

If it's any consolation, the pair that beat them (Tomo and Koyomi) will almost certainly lose to the Ash/Pikachu steamroller next round.

I was not surprised myself at Robin/Amon winning Key for the simple reason of the show was on tv. Simply put twice as many people even know about Witch Hunter Robin over Basilisk.

The same applies for Pokemon beating out Armitage. Heck, I bet even less fewer people have seen Armitage III then Basilisk.

Too bad Nadesico itself lost this round.

I've seen Dual-Matrix and totally fell in love with the main characters. Though I also think Ash and Pikachu have just as much reason to be in this tournament as any of the others. I'm not sure why people think they're any less of a duo except for the fact that Pikachu isn't human -- "like a boy and his dog."

That's what it deserved. Mainly because no one defended the pair, but also because Renji and Chihiro are way more deserving to move on because of the way their relationship is set up. So I'm glad the Nadesico pair lost; they'd lose next round anyway.

That's what it deserved? That seems a bit harsh to say Ko.

They're fictional characters; I don't think you have to worry about their feelings being hurt.
