They got my vote because of your campaigning, actually Smile

I am generally pleased with the results, especially because Renji and Chihiro made it to the next round as did Shu and Chise. As stated by others, I expected Gennosuke and Oboro to win this one...

Renji & Chihiro won! Wow. While I had been hoping for that, I wasn't expecting it. I was also a little surprised at how strongly people were campaigning for Jinto and Lafiel.

Whee, 14 points for the mini-game, and the two I missed were only 2 and 4 votes apart. Only one of this misses by default costs me a point for the third round, although the three-way match-up doesn't look like it'll help my selection.

Yep, I was also surprised by the effect of campaigning against Excel and Hyatt. One of my two losses resulted from this. I haven't seen the anime Jinto and Lafiel are from, but I am impressed by the level of support for them. Although, I am currently tied for the lead after this round, I expect to drop as the rounds past. I expected the Excel Saga to go much further than it did. I have clearly underestimated the distaste some of you have for this series. I suppose it does cater to an acquired taste.

My other loss was also a shock to me as well and it wasn't even close. Since I hadn't seen either series I decided to favor the Fruit Baskets duo over the Uthena duo. However, I am surprised I am even doing as well as I am since I only started watching anime about a year ago.

With the method I used for the minigame, Round 1 Group A was the easiest set of picks. I'm significantly less confident about Group B.

I feel loads better about my picks for Groups C and D. Groups A and B held a lot of couples I didn't know too well.

My scores in the minigame don't look too swift. Crying or Very sad

Nah, that's not enough to cry over. I'm glad that a lot of my personal favorites made it through! Very Happy (Vash and Wolfwood, Utena and Anthy, Shuji and Chise)

I don't think you're correctly interpreting what happened there. While a few Jinto/Lafiel votes may have been specifically against Excel Saga, that was much more of a case of votes specifically for Jinto/Lafiel instead. Heck, I still think Excel Saga is one of the flat-out funniest anime I've ever seen, so I certainly have no "distaste" for it. It's just not a series well-suited to competing in this kind of tourney.

Or if you want to look at it another way, Excel had her turn for glory in the Craziest Character tournament, which she won so handily that only one opponent in seven rounds gave her a serious challenge. (A cookie to the person who remembers who she beat by only two votes, and it wasn't in one of the later rounds.)

That would be Dokuro-chan in the third round, and I believe it was only by one vote?

Do I still qualify to receive cookies? Smile

Risa and Otani lost??

*shock*
*begins writing hit list*

Evil or Very Mad Crying or Very sad

oh well, I suppose I will have to campaign for my other favorites in the tournament since this pair got kicked out so early. Shame on all of you.

oh, and I will probably proudly continue to hold last place in the brackets for the rest of the tournament. The coveted last spot. I know you're jealous.

If it's any consolation, the pair that beat them (Tomo and Koyomi) will almost certainly lose to the Ash/Pikachu steamroller next round. Wink

I'm extremely pleased about the participation happening in this tournament this time around. We got a record 30 votes, vastly more than any other tournament at ANN I've witnessed. Please continue to participate! Your participation makes it that much more fun for everyone.

I'm excited about the turn-out, too. Maybe the less spoilerish nature of duo pairings is encouraging more to participate?

Anyway, of the final results, the one that surprises me the most is Robin and Amon edging out Gennosuke and Oboro. I thought Robin/Amon was maybe the weakest and most tenuous pairing in the whole group, so I consider this a bit of an upset. The one that disappoints me the most is Ross and Armitage losing to Ash and Pikachu, but that doesn't surprise me since the latter duo probably have the greatest name recognition of any duo in the entire tournament. And I am very happy that enough people came to their sense to give Jinto and Lafiel the win.

The spoilerish nature of the last one was why I didn't participate so I think, and am pleased, this one seems to be getting more support. I was not surprised myself at Robin/Amon winning Key for the simple reason of the show was on tv. Simply put twice as many people even know about Witch Hunter Robin over Basilisk. The same applies for Pokemon beating out Armitage. Heck, I bet even less fewer people have seen Armitage III then Basilisk. Both Amon/Robin and Ash/Pikachu should not have won their respective battles but I knew they would due to sheer popularity. Next round should be a bit different I hope.

I also am very happy with the win for Jinto/Lafiel because they truly deserved it. I think they are one of the strongest duos in bracket A all together. I am even more pleased with the huge come from behind win for Chise/Shuji. A very reminiscent come from behind victory of the likes of Gai heh. Too bad Nadesico itself lost this round. I think Chise/Shuji are also one of the top 3 duos in bracket A so them not going on to round 2 would be a crime. I am sorry they had to knock out Lavie and Claus but they are the deserving winner.

I hope not. That pairs reminds me of the last 2 elections in America. You got 2 groups that shouldn't win but unfortunately you have to vote for one of them. Best to vote for the lesser of 2 evils as they say. I know Ash and Pikachu are iconic but seriously voting for them is like voting for a boy and his dog. Of course they're a pair, the dog doesn't know any better as long as the boy feeds him and rubs his belly.

I'm not even sure why I voted Robin and Amon, cause I've seen both series. These two were the hardest to choose from over all the other choices, and I'm a little mad at myself because I didn't realize that I had voted the Basilisk duo in my mini-game bracket. *smacks forehead* If only I had gone the other way, there would have been a tie...

I've seen Dual-Matrix and totally fell in love with the main characters. Though I also think Ash and Pikachu have just as much reason to be in this tournament as any of the others. I'm not sure why people think they're any less of a duo except for the fact that Pikachu isn't human -- "like a boy and his dog."

That's what it deserved. Mainly because no one defended the pair, but also because Renji and Chihiro are way more deserving to move on because of the way their relationship is set up. So I'm glad the Nadesico pair lost; they'd lose next round anyway.

For me it's rather hard to vote for someone that has no speaking lines and does not add their own opinions and thoughts into the mix. To me a duo is 2 people working together and IMO Pikachu, while techincally working with Ash, is not really doing that so much as just doing what he's supposed to do. I mean in the pokemon are supposed to battle each other, that's half the premise of the show. To see who can be the best Pokemon "trainer" (not the best pokemon duo/team/friend. By labeling Ash as a trainer to me it lowers Pikachu's role in what I consider a duo to be since it can be argued that Pikachu is just doing what he's trained to do.

That's what it deserved? That seems a bit harsh to say Ko. Maybe I'm just being too sensitive here but saying they deserved that just seems kinda harsh compared to simply saying they weren't the better of two pairs or the other pair should win. Maybe it's just how you're saying it but it's coming across as a bit harsh. And whether or not a pair would likely lose in the next round shouldn't affect someone's vote in that current round I would hope.

They're fictional characters; I don't think you have to worry about their feelings being hurt.

What about my feelings huh?! Crying or Very sad

Seriously though, like I said I could just be being a bit sensitive over the series as it was one of my first I ever bought on VHS so it holds special memories for me.
