Interesting...

Will they keep the apparently standard approx. 200 pg. compliations, or will they go for a monthly installment format like normal U.S comics?

Didn't they print at least Gon years and years ago under whichever label was their equivalent to Marvel's Epic?

Yes DC did publish Gon, so they do have experience with manga. On another note, can someone post the direct link to the original article about this on comic book resources? I couldn't find it on their website.

I don't mind DC and Marvel getting into manga. It's better than certain nameless companies 9*cough* Image *cough*) ripping off manga art and claiming its their own style.

Dude thats seriously messed up, you cant exactly "rip off" anything ya know? So what if they got stuff thats done in the manga-ish kinda art style huh? The people that draw it basically DO make it there own kind of style. Look at Battle Chasers for example.

I say its great seeing DC go into manga, most of their usual super hero stuff been falling behind the ranks like Marvel's. Its about time some new and different stories hit the book shelves and comic book stands

You're talking about Image, the company founded by that ego-maniac McFarlane who was too cheap to even pay Gaiman for helping contribute one of the villains for Spawn. So I feel it's fair to say "ripped off", especially since a few of their titles also have similar manga-style writing.

I'm not sure if I want to kill Adam Warren exactly, but I certainly want him to be injured in some capacity.

Mr. "MY VERSION OF DIRTY PAIR WAS TEH BETTAR" needs to be taken down a peg.

I'm quite familiar with the whole McFarlane v.s Gaiman case, and I honestly dont want to remember it. It ended last year, and but htey are both still buddies.

However, I think its stupid to say any of their titles rip off manga in anyway, and that goes for ANY other publication in any country.Ripping of manga-style writing? WTF are you getting at here? What is "manga style writing?" I think you gotta open your eyes a bit and see just what the art of comic book making really is.

Yeah right, I'm a huge follower of Adam Warren's stuff, and I dont recall him ever stating his version of Dirty Pair was better. He is a fan of the series, and he was given the chance to do his own adapation of the series in a way he would like to. Its no different than a doujinshi really, except its legal.

Oh yeah, if people can rip off "manga style art" and "manga style writing" then what do you make of the popular otaku web comic Mega Tokyo then? Or how about the many titles published by http://www.antarctic-press.com eh? There is more to a japanese comic book than big eyes and small mouths and guys with spiky hair, because there are plenty of japanese manga that completely lack that, and there is more to american comic books than beefy super heros and full colored pages.

The way I see it, the art of comic books worldwide have a major influence to artists everywhere. When Nobuhiro Watsuki made Hiko Seijuro for example, that huge cloak of Hiko's came from Spawn ya know. Very Happy

I rest my case.

Izlude that was viscous, but for the most part true. Gatsu how come you aren't critisizing Crossgen for "ripping of manga" because they seem to have much more in common with manga style then any other American publisher.

hehe, also, Jinen was made in the image of Gambit. And I should point out that Mr. Nightow of Trigun fame has a soft spot for Spawn too... it should also be kind of obvious from the way Vash looks in the opening, with his huge (much bigger than normal) red coat flowing in the wind like a cape.

Izlude, that article you posted was a hoax. In fact McFarlane and Gaiman are no longer friends. A recent Comics Journal carried court transcripts and such that tell the real story.

ICv2 article:
Quote:
The trial ended with a bizarre, almost surreal scene of camaraderie between the two adversaries, who both comported themselves with great civility and showed considerable mutual respect, at least in a creative sense, throughout the entire proceedings. After Judge Shabaz dismissed the jury and adjourned the court, McFarlane caught up with Gaiman outside the courtroom. With one of the Spawn comics that had been used as an exhibit in the trial in his hand he asked Gaiman to sign it for a young boy who was in the courtroom with one of McFarlane's attorneys. McFarlane signed the comic and handed it to Gaiman saying, "I saved you the sweet spot." Gaiman signed and posed for a picture with McFarlane and the boy, providing a fitting coda to a case about a medium that is, after all, about entertainment and fun.

So is that part false, misleading, or just outdated?
