I mean, I enjoyed the second season a lot and there's some stuff they can use for season 3 that I'm looking forward to. |
Yes please, that was some of my favorite stuff. So many people whined and complained over on mal that they hated Hibiki's voice, it made me very sad :/

I do find it odd that people would comment on Yuri content when there are tons of yaoi shows out there as well these days, even Kyo-ani is in on it now as they continue to delay FMP4. (mutters and wanders off)

How dare I not like a show because I believe it could have been good but then decided to laser-aim towards one specific group for literally zero good reason whatsoever!
Christ I even said I thought the show was good in all other respects.

So if you think a show is great in all respects, except that it has lesbians. And that fact is what makes you not watch it that makes you a...wait for it...misogynist!
Unless you have some other explanation that doesn't make you come off quite so badly.

Oh, ew, why.
Will someone please explain to me the appeal of Symphogear?
I've watched both seasons, and tried to like it, but it just feels so below-average to me, like it's trying too hard to be something?
Also, I love yuri, so the undertones don't bother me whatsoever.

I'll try:
1. The music is great. To me, battles are 3 times as epic with a vocal song playing. 10 times as epic if said song is sung by the people fighting.
2. It's just plain fun. The story isn't very deep, but it is very easy to watch, and just enjoy the action.
3. The characters aren't just one dimensional cut outs, and actually grow over the series. It also helps that they are all adorable.
4. The antagonists are a joy to watch. Vert, in particular, has the craziest faces and both him and Fine chewed the scenery so much it went full circle and became amusing.

Personally, I thought it was ridiculous in a fun way, the way they sang idol music while attacking. And it sells idol music cds , so they can keep making it , I'm guessing

It's like a J-pop opera that happens to have an anime video track, rather than a fun anime that has a great original soundtrack. The music alone can carry this show, the villains and heroines alike are over the top, they sing and cackle as they fight, they stop the action with stills naming the attacks.
Characters use their twintails as weapons... Awesome transformations. Clothes destruction. It's magical, singing, fighting idols as they were meant to be! And they're in school. And trying to keep their secret identities to keep their idol careers going...
So their manager cuts the transmission... which is eerily copied in the "NO SIGNAL" attempt to reach Maria's seiyuu during the pre-season meet the cast session.
The season starts with Yui Horie's character Serena singing the amazing song "apple" unaccompanied while bleeding from her eyeballs in a scene of absolute destruction. Her sister Maria joins in. This is echoed in a later episode. Just an amazing opening to season 2, great impact in a role with such little screen time but which really supplies motivation for Maria's character.
Hibiki's arm is bitten off, she loses 1000 gallons of blood (buy the Bluray to see actual blood instead of a mostly blacked out scene), the Nephilim chews, chews, chews, swallows, that arm ain't comin' back... but it's OK, Black Hibiki regrows that arm and proceeds to pound the living heck out of it and rip its heart out THROUGH ITS BACK! Through its back!!!
The villains and heroines find out they're really on the same side. Friendship, holding hands and singing together saves the world! What could be better than that?
It's just fun! If you're expecting a serious show then you came to the wrong place. Can't wait for the third season, whatever it is about...

Can't she just ship the commander with the ninja? Everyone else did. Hell, those two were pretty much always together. |
I ship Tsubasa and her ninja manager. I've even written a song about them.
I've got a ninja boyfriend, but that's OK
'Cause I'm a samurai girl, and I like it that way.
Hahaha

True. However, I'll admit I was under the impression Kanade was the co-lead since she was why I came to watch the show in the first place.
Also, I know it's tiring that's why I don't really comment about the show. I have purposefully avoided really commenting on the show so that everyone who likes it can enjoy it. |
I am continually amazed at how some people became so invested in Kanade that they refused to let themselves even attempt to enjoy the rest of the show. And have since constructed a mythology about how she would have been SUCH a better lead character than Hibiki, and the entire show was ruined by her death.
Which is just weird. |
I love Kanade because she's a mature, uncutesy woman with an awesome design and voice. I would love to see her play a part in the third season. I'm done with the amount of cutesy characters we got in G (the change in Chris's attitude, Shirabe, Kirika, Miku, Hibiki, *barf*)
But I love Symphogear, and I'm wondering which awesome singing seiyuu we'll get next! I'm hoping Aya Hirano (is shot by rabid male fans).

Well, how to put it...... how do summer blockbusters become hits and get sequels? If ya seriously analyze it, you'd realize they're really not all that, but still, people enjoy watching. It's like a summer blockbuster in such aspect.

Considering how many songs there are in G, it may prove too expensive. |
Ahh that would explain it then but what about just a simple streaming license on crunchy-roll?? Exposure of the series through legal means would really help this out in the long run IMO |
I would say it isn't the music as much as it is the show's history and company that is holding it back. It is one of the terrible victims of the Funico era, and to boot it is a Satelight show, which for some reason doesn't seem to work well with Funimation, almost a year between announcement and appearance of their Last partnership, Aquarion Evol. On the other hand you have Section 23 pumping out Satelight series, even getting dubs, and even releasing a show like AKB0048 which has way more music and Japanese branding drama with it.
I still think it is entirely possible to get a release. I just think Funimation doesn't want to deal with it, and I would be totally fine with that, even if we only get later seasons streamed on Crunchyroll, like what they did for Milky Holmes(another Funico victim.) We probably won't see a video release from anyone but FUNi though. Give it a sub only release if you can FUNi

This is good news. Season 2 felt better than the first, so I have hopes this could be even better, especially if they keep the characters they added.
Although now that I think about it, I feel a little sad that the characters are not catching a break.

Thing is... It doesn't even have lesbians. It has girls being friends. Guys often ship the girls because they think it's fun, but there's no canon lesbian pairings or anything.
Yes Chris and Tsubasa have a close relationship, and I love seeing them together. Yes, Miku and Hibiki are childhood friends. There is no proof in the anime that says THEY ARE LESBIANS.
So anyway, even if you don't like yuri, this anime is awesome, and I really do suggest watching it.

The show basically beats us over the head with the fact that Hibiki and Miku are a couple. It never actually uses the word, but its about as subtle as StrikerS-era Nanoha and Fate.
