.. possibly because all of the girls are sticking to Shonen Jump these days.

Girls love Gintama, et al. The amount of fujoshi doujinshi is pretty staggering Very Happy

Do you read French or Italian? Gokinjyo is in French and Tokimeki Tonight is in Italian, both the original and the later re-do, and both languages have the manga of Aishite Knight available.

I'm so jealous of the French manga market! They have a lot of great classic shojo titles we don't. I'd love to read it, but even though I studied french for eight years in school I don't feel confident enough in my french skills to try to read manga in the language. Plus, importing manga sounds expensive.

Do you think it's because of the appeal these stories have for older women? Or is it easier to get a female audience at the broadcast time for a drama than an anime?

I think you're right that both shojo manga and live-action dramas are meant to appeal more to females - dramas usually rate higher with female audiences, and if you notice they often hire popular male stars from boybands like Arashi to attract female viewers. I think a lot of shojo manga also lends itself naturally to be adaptated into dramas, and it makes sense to adapt manga into live-action series because they already have established fanbases.
