Was DTB ever released on bluray before/produced in hd? Or is this an upscale?

It got a BD Box back in 2009 in Japan. Cannot find info on whether it is an upscale or not though.

It seems like the Japanese BD might have been 1080p:

Quote:
Video
Codec: MPEG-4 AVC
Resolution: 1080p
Aspect ratio: 1.78:1
Original aspect ratio: 1.78:1

Audio
Japanese: Dolby TrueHD 5.1
Japanese: LPCM 2.0

Subtitles
None

maybe I'll wait to see what it looks like before deciding. Hopefully they get some pics up sooner than later.

You took the words out of my mouth. Darker than Black is one of my favorite anime series, but I feel conflicted about this release. And I do not want to buy a ridiculous-sized box. I will also wait and see.

Hopefully there'll be a stripped down, cheaper Blu-Ray release at some point, too. This is a little pricey for Darker than Black. I mean, it's a good show, but... heh, it's no Cowboy Bebop.

Considering that it comes with a display easel,it's safe to assume it's going to be similar to the Bebop set.

So glad they waited until after I thought : "Well, this is never getting a Bluray, so might as well buy it as is" *sigh*

Ok, I saw this on the ad skin but this release wasn't what had me curious: What was the deal with the DVD repackage of Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040?

Same anime classic label with a less interesting cover? Why?

Darker Than Black, didn't want the DVD, don't want the BD, couldn't care less about the premium set {I'm not enough of a masochist to watch this series ever again} but a reissued BGC 2040, that would annoy me as I have the old Anime Classic one.

Funi trying to make a quick buck off the Bubblegum Crisis Blu-ray.

No information on whether it will be Subs-Only, Dubs-Only or both?

Agreed. I loved the first season so I've been looking forward to this first season of DTB getting released on BD for ages.

Would love to see FMA 2003.

The product page on Funi's site lists both audios plus English subs. Pretty much the same as almost everything Funi releases. Smile

Of course the set is 1080p, but that does not mean that it is not an upscale. There have already been some Funimation Blu-Ray's for non-HD anime where the video was "remastered" into 1080p. Some of these did not turn out too well since some detail was smeared away in an effort to clean up grain from the video. In any case, I seem to remember seeing somewhere that the first season of this show was not HD, but I do remember where I read that information.

Darker Than Black is up on TRS site now and is listed at $59.99 due to the Funimation sale and if you have Got Anime discount it drops it to $54. Seems pretty reasonable to me, if I had some pics that showed it wasn't ridiculously over sized I might be inclined to pre-order. Heck, I might pre-order and then cancel if I don't like the looks of it. I guess I'll think about it a few more days.

Excellent! Already preordered. Can always cancel if I don't like the pictures.
