The thing is that I haven't seen it at any local anime stores, Best Buy, or Suncoast. I haven't gotten it because I haven't seen it at my local shelves, and haven't even attempted to order it online.

I am probably going to order it online, it's fairly cheap on ebay if you look. I got the first season of gantz really cheap as well, but as for seeing it in store I thought my local anime store had it last time I went there. But I will check tomorrow and see if it's there....

So Gantz was the only "Shelf Worthy Title"... I'd never thought I'd hear that. But it was great... up until the ending. I thought Basilisk was shelf worthy, but different strokes for different folks.

I thought that Basilisk might be shelf worthy as well but I could understand with volumes it's very jumble up and all other place. I hope that vol 2 again try to establish a better balance between love and action.
Till next time,

Those anime fans are lucky it was not in Oakland after a Raiders game were they lost in the last couple of minutes.....

Is it me or does anyone else feel like taking a punch to the Willy Wanka kid just for sounding like an idiot. Twisted Evil
Like Keonyn I'm also a baseball fan, and it saddens me that my two favorite people can't get along, the drunk heckler and the obsessed geek.

Also, Case Closed just being rental worthy, come on. Maybe those cheap kids vocies do sound lames. But maybe the Case Closed fan might still buy it.Kudos for Funi getting 6 episodes on a disc. Very Happy

I think it's a real shame that some fans have to snipe at each other, though they seem to be the exception more than the rule, at least at cons I've been to. Still, there are way too many snobs in anime fandom. They should knock it off and have a good time like everyone else.

People DID seem a bit more ready to be hostile to non-otaku this Otakon, possibly because of the huge glut of baseball people, many of whom were pretty rude. There was a bit of a tribal warfare thing going on, I think. Doesn't excuse that kind of behavior, of course. But the rudeness did seem to be worse than in past years. I'm hoping it was just a side-effect of the baseball craziness. A lot of geeks seem to instantly become hostile towards anything having to do with athletics, which to me is kind of silly.

There are minor riots whenever any team wins a championship (which are usually blown out of proportion by the media.) The Sox aren't unique in that reguard. But the people who start them are a small, vocal group of jerks, like the aforementioned rude otaku. Most fans just party and yell a bit, maybe set off some fireworks, and that's about it. No smashing in windshields.

That's an awesome title, BTW! Laughing

I think that fans only act like that to sports fans because it's their way of striking back at them when they couldn't in high school (they won't see them the next day and get laughed at!). Well, I did also think that once everyone's grown up and older, they look back at those days and have a laugh. I guess not...

Thing is, the first few episodes of Basilisk really aren't that great. Though the series does get better, the first few episodes do basically amount to freaky cannon fodder ninjas doing the whole "eye for an eye," I-kill-you-and-you-kill-me act. Once the herd thins out, it starts to improve.

In any fandom there are jerks.

However badmouthing baseball fans as stupid is off the mark, it is one of the more intellectually appealing sports around.

But the kid dressed as Wonka, WTF was he doing? This was an anime con. Why go to the effort to dress up as something else and go to an anime con? I can understand the occasional non-anime/manga/game character if there is a different con in the same city on the same day but going out of your way to wear a costume that has nothing to do with the event just screams "Look at my inflated ego!"

I'm almost embarassed (for myself) to mention this;

The content review for Saiyuki Reload Gunlock is for volume 2, not volume 3 as listed there. Having just watched #3 last night myself I'm fairly sure of it. It's otherwise completely (again, unfortunately) accurate.

That kitten picture is so cute! And, funny story, my mom glimpsed the computer while I was looking at the kitten. She came to the computer, exclaiming, "What a cute kitten! Oh, wait! It's a drawing..."

As for the anime fans vs. baseball fans situation, it seems as though anime fans grow bolder in larger numbers. I'm sure that a lot of those snotty anime fans would merely avert their eyes politely in the face of so many of another fandom if they were on their own.

I think it's meant to say Hale and not Guu in that first sentence. I can't see why Guu would need to chill out since she's usually cool as a cucumber no matter how bizarre the situation is (and no wonder since she's more often than not the cause for it...)

I agree there defintely is that feel to the series (thus far) that one ninja spoiler[from one clan kills another ninja, in turn the other side returns the favor.] I have higher hopes that the series does turn around for the better, but like I mention I thought it could be shelf worthy, but hey that alright. On another note I love that Basilisk box....so beautiful.

One thing that should be noted that is somone die after the red sox won. But then again that was from a police less then lethal shotgun (which was being fired into the air) but that is true that riots normally ensue shortly after a team win the title. But what do you expect win a bunch of drunk people get together after seeing their team win......destroying things of course.

The openning rant (or rather "realistic observation") makes me cringe just because I know that it isn't a unique phenomina. If your going to cosplay in public at least take being called a weirdo with a good sense of humor because you KNOW people are going to stare. What's worse is the fact that they acted like snobs, as if harem anime is so much more intellectual than some silly game. Greeting animosity with more animosity is never going to work; your dressed like a weirdo, just take it with a sense of humor (the Sailor Bubba story about going into a bar in full costume is a good example).

Which was caused mostly by college kids who didn't even grow up in Boston. Yes, Sox fans do act like not-so-nice-people more than most sports fans (I still remember when people used to boo the hometeam for screwing up), but whenever you get that many people together it only takes a couple of trouble-makers to cause a riot.
I never bothered to watch Gantz because I've read the manga. Yes, I think there is some depth in the portion that the show covered, but for the most part it was T&G (you figure it out), though very enjoyable at that. There is some fine character development beyond the portion the show covers, but after 200+ chapters its gotten old. A condensed narrative the focuses more on characters would have been appreciated, though the unpridicatable nature still makes the series worth the read.
I'm currious about the Basilisk anime though. I thought the first volume of the manga was poor, but animated mindless violence is always more fun that drawn mindless violence.

Like all the previous Saiyuki series, the third volume of Gunlock is only exciting for spurts at a time. The rest of it is filler; then again, if you like filler, then you’ll be in heaven. Kougaiji is still after the scroll, but he’s been changed into a ruthless killer by Dr. Ni so he’s taking it out on Goku. Eventually the rest of the boys show up, a few fireballs are hurled, and the storyline is put on hold again so viewers can watch them play Jumanji, only without the mustachioed hunter and Robin Williams. After that, Gajyo goes on a date. Whoopah. I’m already bothered enough (still) by the GAP clothes and the armored vehicles that having all this pointless filler just rubs me the wrong way. I realize that our heroes are still adventuring, and that side-stories must happen along the way, but for someone who is not inherently a Saiyuki fan, I don’t really care about what little scenarios they run into. Needless to say, if you are a Saiyuki fan, you probably will care. Ultimately, this is a show for people who either liked the previous series, or don’t mind watching people wander around. At the very least, the characters are pretty entertaining and they have great chemistry, so that alone should be worth a quick rental.

I haven't received my Saiyuki Gunlock 3 yet, but this review sounds strangely like dvd 2. It sounds like the synopsis at Right Stuf for dvd 2.

I'm finding Gunlock more enjoyable than Reload. They changed directors from the first series(which was half filler also-the entire gods arc that took up the 2nd season was made for the anime.) THe director pretty well took up all of Reload to get a feel for the title.

And yeah, I'm a big Saiyuki fan, but isn't the point the journey? I don't believe we've reached the end of the trip in the manga, but doesn't Saiyuki mean Journey to the West meaning she never really has to get there, right? It's a road-trip movie with no end. This & Kyo Kara Maoh always give me a laugh & I sit thru most comedies without cracking a smile. (Yeah, I like the characters, so it's funny.) Is there a point to Tenchi? Some titles are more about the characters than going anywhere. Look at our situation comedies-do they ever really go anywhere? Or is it all "What can we do this week?" A lot of our dramas do the same, for that matter, don't they? I mean, how many end-of-the-world baddies did Buffy & Angel take on & there were always more until the both series ended

But then I never thought I'd see anyone rate the Gantz anime that highly. Particularly the 2nd half was very disappointing-almost like they had no real plan of what to do so they just winged it. Gantz fans just want blood & sex, right? Any real plot would have been wasted. But then, I bought it as it was being released & the cliffhangers never bothered me because the characters never managed to make me care enough. Kyo Kara Maoh-the last few disks seem to leave off in the worst place. THAT'S a frustrating cliffhanger. But Kei is so uninteresting, as are the last batch of victims, who cares if they all get turned into mush? All the characters I found interesting died fairly early on, so I only finished the series to see how they were going to wrap it up. (Poorly)

I thought, after seeing ep 1 of Basilisk on the preview disc from Funimation that there was some sort of freak factor common to ninja myth since we saw similar freak-to-freak battles in the Ninja Scroll TV series. That bad guy in in the Ninja Scroll movie was a tad freakish, now I think of it. And Basilisk seems more Ninja Scroll than Naruto. Naruto is more Flame of Recca. Except Flame of Recca has it's share of freaks....so maybe freaks & ninjas do go together.

I thought Benadryl was for allergies, not for mellowing one out. My husband was allergic to tons of stuff & was told to keep it on hand. Of course, I try to avoid medicine as much as possible since they all have side effects, so I might be out of the loop.
