Im gonna revive this thread. Miku. Hmmm. Miku has always been enjoyable to listen to, and the other Vocaloids all have their good points as well. But you KNOW she's popular when she actually has real concerts where she is presented on screen. Maybe to keep this thread alive we could post links to videos of Vocaloid songs? In which case, I will start off by saying I always enjoy the more "strange" somewhat abstract Miku songs. Tower of Sunz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIfq_X-n89g Song of the pitch black Forest http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4HBD6SFszA This infamous one... While Hatsune certainly may be the most well known, the host of other Vocaloids make me feel that perhaps the thread should be expanded.
Personally, I do not like the "dark" approach some fans try and take with Vocaloids (A certain unmentionable song involving Len and Rin fits here), and believe songs like MEIKO's "Various Feelings" to be shining examples of what a Vocaloid can do. People are getting pretty creative with what they can do using MMD and other 3D software, and beyond that, many well done videos have been made (The 9th for example) which give me hope these continue to be popular. |

Some other Miku titles that were in my playlist:
The original version - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTf9Wg4R1DI&feature=PlayList&p=C830006BEE7C3FA5&playnext_from=PL&index=3 And then a remake, try watching in a high an HD as you can - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEvm0GLxdno&feature=PlayList&p=C830006BEE7C3FA5&playnext_from=PL&index=8 The mp3 for the song was available from the artist web site, don't know if it still is (both with vocals and karaoke versions)... |

Last year Yamaha showcased its singing robot, who can walk around on her own, and decided to implement Vocaloid software as the primary singing emulation engine. Since the software works so well with the various visual applications used to animate Vocaloids, they used similar software to generate movements and emotions for the robot. I think they used Miku for her voice but the robot resembles Saki Fujita instead.
I think she's kind of creepy looking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfxkhzGqZIs |

I have two Hatsune Miku albums - 'Supercell' (CD & DVD combo) and 'Vocarythm'...very good albums.
My favorite Hatsune Miku cover on Youtube is Love is War by Fye, and she sings it better than Miku ever could: Love is War Fye also does an excellent job with Last night Good Night: Last Night Good Night This Hatsune Miku figurine is about to be released and I would love to get one as an art piece display representing anime: 1/8th cyber Miku [EDIT: In the future, please use .jpg instead of .png pics for in-forum posts wherever possible. - Key] |

As I mentioned in my other thread I was amazed by the VocaloGenesis CD.
My favorite Hatsune Miku song on it is this one and it's title is appropriate 初音ミクの暴走 or "The Recklessness of Hatsune Miku" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrXc3VgxNsY sorry no official video has been produced for this song (maybe in the future) but you get an still image with karaoke subtitles. |

Not mentioned already in this thread, I believe, is this look at how the Vocaloid phenomenon is made, from Japanese TV.

Thanks for the link, Abunai.
In August (next month) a new Vocaloid from the Vocaloid Character Series will be born. Her name is Lily and is another Japanese female voice not generated from a popular seiyuu like the other Vocaloid characters, but in fact from a professional singer. |

Good idea for a thread!
I've listened to a lot of Vocaloid stuff and much of it is really hit or miss...more of the latter, actually. That said, I've got a few favorite composers and most of them seem to work almost entirely with Miku. Apologies if some of these have been posted Utsu-P - 害虫 (how would you romanize this one?) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rC4RXrOG43I Utsu-P - Psychokinesis : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=By4rfKxZiiQ Utsu-P (feat. Niconico musician Zim on lead guitar!) - Mukuro Attack! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs4zmEnvnmI Hachi (Nashimoto-P, maybe? thanks darkhappy1) - Hold, Release; Rakshasa and Carcasses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEeb9rOKn3Y Hachi - Mrs. Pumpkin no Kokkei Na Yume : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpuxx8gP5S0 Hachi - World's End Umbrella : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK_zS1Ns8_o I need to find more Miku producers that do weird, off-kilter stuff like these tracks. Suggestions would be appreciated. I'm even more interested in things that I'd be able to buy hard copies of. Last edited by Bathos on Tue Jul 20, 2010 11:52 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Hatsune Miku is nice, I suppose, but I have to say that I prefer Megurine Luka's voice. Why limit ourselves to just one vocaloid?
I really enjoy listening to Vocaloid songs. A lot. In the hands of a skilled composer and user, they sound amazing. However, searching for Vocaloid songs is fun in its own way. Because the singers are Vocaloids, and not just individual bands of different genres, it's much easier to find music that's extremely odd or simply different compared to the mainstream or even what would be considered alternative. Producers that don't have singers can use them too. And because it's not an actual person singing, all those annoying details that humans both consciously and unconsciously add are controlled by the user. @ Bathos Apparently, whenever I see 害虫 in a video that translates the word, I see words like "bug," "pest," or "parasite." I'm also pretty sure that Hachi didn't create "Hold, Release; Rakshasa and Carcasses." That would be from Nashimoto-P, who created other songs that some say are quite depressing and cynical. *shrug* I don't know Japanese; I read translations. But hey, he created one of my favorite songs! Nashimoto-P - Sow, Slut, Slapper : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaDpzJzpIIU I suppose this would be considered rock? Well, his songs are very appealing.... Can't really say all that much that I haven't already said. Which still isn't all that much. Again, I don't know Japanese. If you want, you can try some of these Hatsune Miku songs and their producers: Furukawa-P - Girlfriend : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KjoxYWA1Ec This guy blends together voices (Hatsune Miku, Megurine Luka, and GUMI, usually) to create one airy, calming voice. This song is an example of that technique. However, he has other songs that has just one vocaloid singing, and they're still very good. This song is just my favorite from him. Yuyoyuppe - Blue : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_JyLcLToZs Hmm... I can never identify genres correctly anymore. I suppose this would be metal? Well, this guy is famous among the Vocaloid fans of that genre (and I'm part of that group). Utsu-P is also one of the producers that could be associated with him, although Utsu-P distorts the voices more and makes them sing in higher pitches. Yuyoyuppe is slightly more conventional, but his works are still magnificent. wowaka - out of step : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhO3K3_L20U This producer is well know for Two-Faced Lovers, and his style is very recognizable. His songs move quickly, using the same tempo most of the time, and beeping sounds are almost always part of the music. In fact, there are two songs that I can think of that by him that don't possess some of these traits, but they still have that certain flair he's known for. Chaa - necrocarnival -lomgmix- : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddV5vx80dbc This producer creates techno music, I think. This particular song is probably leaning towards dance, but eh. I'm bad with genres. They say the songs are experimental, so you know what? I'll just go with them. Apparently, one of the accounts (that ymiya guy on Youtube) that contained a lot of his (and many others') songs is gone. Chaa might also go by another name, but there's a discrepancy that throws me off enough that I have no idea if it's true or just some user's mistake. Okay, that's about it. For now. EDIT: some changes in words and to correct spelling. EDIT 2: It's kinda stupid to edit this since it's been so long any no one's going to see, but I made a mistake. Hachi did make Hold, Release, Rakshaka and Carcasses. Yeah.... Last edited by darkhappy1 on Fri Sep 24, 2010 4:12 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Thanks! I edited my post to sorta-reflect the producer correction on Rakshasa and Carcasses. I'm sure I'll track some more things down to post in this thread. I don't spend nearly enough time on ANN lately. :v edit: Wow, Yuyoyuppe could easily become a long-time favorite producer of mine. So much good stuff. |

In reality it's cool to discuss any of your favorite vocaloids, but I myself will always love Miku the most. I'm starting to like Kagamine Len's quite a bit and I'm excited about the upcoming Lily. I like how they used a seiyuu for Miku's voice rather than a famous singer because it's neat how the producers put so much faith in the concept, technology and image and not rely on the voice itself to be the main selling point. |

Article: Japanese pop star Hatsune Miku takes the stage -- as a 3-D hologram
Reviving the thread to post this. You can also watch the youtube video here. I wonder if she is truly 3D with 360 degree camera angle. (I didn't watch the entire video to see if the camera angled around). |
