Wow. Either everything they got wasn't that great or they really didn't feel like paying up the extra money and animate any of them.

So they basically wasted the time of everyone that participated. Nice. So they didn't explain why there were no grand prizes? I'm guessing this'll also be the last Kyoto Animation Award.

Man...Kyoani...just cough up the prize or stop trying to expand your brand if you aren't ready yet. Either of the two will be doing the company a favour.
Oh wait...you don't need a favour because no matter much you keep screwing up your fans will still think you're a just the best thing ever. My mistake...carry on then.

When will people stop defending Kyoto Animation? Imagine if the Academy Awards announced that no one had won any awards, and in fact Best Supporting Actor didn't have anyone nominated.

They did pay a bunch of 100,000-yen (US$1,100) honorable mention prizes, didn't they?

I was a bit confused that an award organisation in Kyoto was so unimpressed with what was entered that it only gave out Honourable Mentions, then the penny dropped that it was not an independant organisation, but the business company of that name, and it all became clear. I wonder what the winning criteria was?

What's that? It's better if they did not held an AWARDINGS in the first place...
That's one hell of a booooring event. No winners. Only honorable mentions.

This is like going to Willy Wonka's and watching him eat a whole pile of chocolate in front of you instead of opening the damn gate.
That Gobstopper is bullshit!

This isn't a tokyo pop thing where they have to pick a winner. And look at their great track record... It's was a serious contest that the studio was gonna put their money behind so I'm not surprised they didn't find one they felt confident about. The honorable mentions will probably get tweaked and tweaked again until they feel they have a show. For really strict or serious contest; sometimes their is no grand prize winner that year. It's not unheard of. Although it sucks it happened in their first year of doing it. Hope they try again!

Yeah, this wasn't an exercise in douchebaggery. No, not at all.

Yes, but in a subjective contest such as this, the competitors have every right to call shenanigans.

I don't know, just seems like they wanted to "borrow" ideas and see which ones they can tweak around to make it their own for later without giving credit.
