Could someone please add this to the encyclopedia? There are enough differences with the original to warrant a new entry (relationship: remake).

My place of residence must be located beneath some sort of sedimentary deposit. Didn't they just re-mix the sound and add in some better 3D effects for vehicles and such?

Well, the number of scenes with new CG is quite large. There are a few shots that weren't even in the original. I haven't compared the two versions yet, but I think the art was cleaned up a little as well (sharper lines for example). And the voices were re-recorded. The most noticeable change there is that the Puppet Master now has a female voice (fits better with it having a female body I think). All in all I'd say there are more than enough changes to warrant a new entry in the encyclopedia. IMDb, AniDB, AnimeNfo and MyAnimeList all have it listed as a separate entry.

It would probably be easier than adding precisions for all the things that have changed.

The most important factor keeping me undecided was your own words:
I waited to see if someone who had watched and compared both versions could come forward, yet no one appeared. Furthermore, Wikipedia (both Japanese and English) has not listed GitS 2.0 as an independent entry; instead it was just briefly mentioned in a paragraph. You might argue that Wikipedia, like IMDb, AniDB, AnimeNfo and MyAnimeList (which shamelessly stole the entire news paragraph from ANN; a sentence providing the link should be enough), is user-contributed, so I checked the Japanese and English sites of Production I.G; neither has listed GitS 2.0 in their work lists. Even Mamoru Oshii himself does not list GitS 2.0 in his work list. Therefore, I'm more inclined not to add GitS 2.0 as an independent title. I suggest you add Yoshiko Sakakibara's role and premiere date(s) with precision tags, as Shiroi Hane said. |

Ah I see.
What I meant was that I hadn't compared the two versions side-by-side to see if the art was cleaned up as well like I thought (it might have been the result of HD resolution). I have seen both movies of course (have the original on DVD, and will buy the new one when it comes out in uh, October I think it was). I searched for comparisons between the two versions and found these two sites: austrianotakuLIVE: Ghost in the Shell V2.0 (Renewal Version) - talks about the differences and gives comments on the images. Asian Blu-ray Guide: Ghost in the Shell 1.0 and 2.0 Set (Japan) Blu-ray Disc Screenshots - just pairs of images. As you can see, not only are many scenes redone in 3D, but nearly all scenes have some lighting touchups and enhancements made. Which version you prefer is of course a matter of taste. I think both have their strengths and drawbacks. As for having a separate entry in the Encyclopedia, I think that's the easiest way to handle this case. You can add a note that it is only a partial remake. Describing all the differences in the same entry would be quite cumbersome I think. Completeness and clarity should be important for the Encyclopedia. I see your point though, and if you insist on not making a new entry then so be it. |

I think it should be added, Both Films are radically different from each other with regards to new scenes, Not to mention the change with regards to the Puppet Master.
