They have a point. It's a sexual harassment issue. Time to get an in-house printer, YP.

Another possible affect of the Handley case, me wonders? I realise not all yaoi is VCP, but there are a few that have scrapped the wall of that boundry. and now with the precedent set By "Handley" more publishers are being more careful and picky.

perhaps, although if you look at the pages on YP's site that the printer listed as "offensive" there are some worse ones I think...

I'd be suprised if that wasn't the issue.

Agreed, but as "Handley" has proved, the meaning of "offensive" is quite subjective to what peoples', including the authorities, feelings are of just what that is.

Indeed, instead of mearly having to slap an 18 label on it, the printers (and teh producers) are, in effect, playing Legal Russian Roulette.

yea you're quite right... I'm just wondering how 2 guys with bare chests kissing each other is more offensive than 2 semi humans, 1 on top of the other... but each to their own I guess

I doubt this is the first time a printer has refused to print a book for a BL publisher. I'm actually quite amazed that there are any printers in the country that have been doing it all these years, especially considering how tame these particular images are in comparison to some of the ones I've seen in my time.
As for this case, I'm not so quick to assume that Docucopies has any knowledge of the Handley case whatsoever. I mean, personally, I don't know anyone outside of the manga/anime fandom that knows about it at all. In fact, if I were not a member of the online anime/manga community (and we have to remember there probably are some of us who aren't, as strange as that might seem), I doubt I would ever hear about it at all. I'll have to wait and see how much of it I hear about this summer at CTCon when I'm actually around other fans.
I'm going to suppose that this is a specific case that this specific company did not feel comfortable printing this specific book. Remember, just because we're comfortable with this style of art, doesn't mean anyone outside our little community will be, regardless of what is happening in the news.

Unfortunately for the printing company, the manga community is large enough to have a direct impact on their business for NOT publishing the book. I am sure that in another 4 to 6 months time we will hear that they went out of business.

You know what? I say 'good for them!'
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind yaoi, I own yaoi, and if this were a legitmate comic, I'd be upset. It's not. It's a flippin' coloring book- it's just another crappy tie-in product to get more money out of barely-of-age fangirls... or worse, underage fangirls.
If yaoi press wants my sympathy, they can spend their money on worthwhile products instead of assuming I'll pay up for any piece of trash with naked boys and the word 'yaoi' on the packaging.

That's kinda surprising. Someone actually refusing work in this economic climate? Psh, I'd take what I could get.
Though I must echo DuelLadyS in the sentiments above, a yaoi coloring book is a really silly idea. Most BL fans (myself included) are over 18 and well past the "coloring book" stage... I mean, that's just kinda weird, y'know?
Plus, it raises the risk of some kid picking it up by accident. No one expects adult content in a coloring book. Yeesh.

Only reason this got a news story is the Yaoi fanbase holy-then-thou attitude, and think just because they have found a pornography circle that doesn't get looked down upon publicly they think they can just do whatever they want, and if they don't get their crappy book published they call foul.
Oh poor baby, you got a reality check. I wish the publisher had just said, "yeah we aren't publishing this because the cover looks like it was designed by a mentally disturbed 3 year old."
