Picked this up at the library (Young Adult section there, too) and read it in an afternoon. You're right that the art isn't any good... I'd give it lower than a C, it adds nothing to the book, and the ones done in a pseudo-comic-book style are so crowded and poorly lain out that they actually detract from it.

As much as it was fun reading this, since the first 6 (chronological) episodes cover it almost exactly, I'm looking forward much more to the rest of the series and the new stories later on.

And leaving moe untranslated...it's like they're begging me to strangle them. Not even a footnote?!
It's translated/explained/whatever 3 words down from its first appearance.

Oh, thank you. I heard that they said that kids are "savvy" enough to figure it out without a context explanation, translation, or footnote. But apparently they changed their mind. Good thing! Thanks for telling me.

Aye.

Was it just me, or did it seem like the guy who reviewed this was paid off?

Yes, he was. In fact, everyone who has an opinion you don't agree with is being paid by a shadow organization.

So I was RIGHT!

Nah, just kidding. He was just writing the review like those people who get, well, paid to. You know, the guys who call stuff "a riveting coming-of-age tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat." I showed my sister the review, and she laughed saying, "Wow, he makes it sound soooo good." I mean, yeah, you're supposed to make it sound good. But it was a little creepy. Like a "Look, I got a thesaurus" review. It's just Haruhi, dude. It's not "riveting", it's not "brilliant", it's not a "tale", it's not "coming of age". You know?

So yeah, I'm not saying EVERYONE who disagrees with me is being paid off (by a shadow organization or not. Anime hyper), but that was the kind of typical "this is gonna be put in a movie commercial/trailer" review. And those always make me think "paid off".
