I couldn't stand Aria. Everything is pleasent, which just sinks too badly of cheap fantasy to me. One of those animated Valium series.

It's probably because I had just read Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, which is just as "boring" as Aria, but much more complex.

An uncharacteristically positive review for an uncharacteristically positive series, it seems Razz Good timing, too, as I'm expecting my copy to arrive in a couple days. I'm greatly looking forward to checking this out.

My apartment's not very big though...maybe I'll just leave my cynicism at the university.

The big problem people have with Aria is that they try to watch too much at once. You're not supposed to marathon the show, simply doing so will make you pisses because the show's not taking you anywhere, or you'll feel like you've just blown through it too fast. I think the show is supposed to be used like a pick-me-up, only when you're feeling down or want to be feeling happy. I've been watching Aria since May and I'm still not through the Natural yet.

Excellent review. Aria's one of my all-time favorites, and I pull it out whenever I get depressed about the grim mess of sexualized violence that is the average anime series. It will tend to seem self-indulgent if you watch it too quickly; I did one episode about every two weeks, which is just the right pace.

Now I'm just hoping that someone licenses Sketchbook ~full color'S~, which I may like even better and which heartily deserves two more seasons.

Oh, and cheers for the Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou fan! Far and away my favorite manga; it needs a proper anime adaption (right now we're stuck with one great OVA and one... well, disturbingly creepy and not-so-great OVA).

I had actually been waiting for a review of this since I saw Right Stuf's screening of it back at Anime Iowa. I found the first episode to be enjoyable, but I figured it would be a series that was constantly happy. There is a chance that I'll pick it up, but I fear that cynicism would get in the way, even if I'm told to ignore my cynical views. But then again, who knows?

I think that this will be the perfect series to keep me occupied until Emma: A Victorian Romance season 2 comes out. I will definitely be picking this one up!

i think that was my problem too...

it's beautifully animated with great character design and background artwork...

but i watched the whole thing in one day and during the viewing, i just couldn't wait for each episode to end because NOTHING was happening...

that was the only problem i had with this series...

i'll watch it again but only when i feel crappy and need something to calm me down...

personally i prefer MariMite from Nozomi more than Aria but i bought both since i want to support their releases...and yes i'll be preordering next season of Aria the Natural part 1 too...

I'm usually into a much more sci fi/fantasy action or a ecchi comedy romance style of anime. But I came across this online a year or 2 ago and i've been hooked ever since.

A great review which makes clear the simple fact that the show is something you need to immerse yourself in and suspend all cynicism in order to watch.

I can't watch it all the time and I don't tend to watch a lot in any one sitting, but on the flip side it is one of the few shows that whenever I'm in the mood I can keep coming back to without any of its episodes losing any of the initial charm.

It takes something really special for me to love an uneventful story. Five Centimetres per Second hit all the spots, but that was partially because it did everything it needed to within its one hour running time.
This show lasts three series. I think I'm a little too sceptical to assume it'll have me engaged for that long. Cynicism is too much of a friend to me.

I love Aria. It's chill-out anime, pure and simple.

Had a tough day at work? Stressed much?
Just stick on some Aria, settle back in an easy chair with a big mug of tea, and just soak up the relaxing atmosphere.

Works for me.

ARIA is a great series to watch if you want to go on a "vacation" and just relax. Plus it's Junichi Sato, which made it an automatic purchase for me. I ordered the set the minute Nozomi announced that they acquire the license and made it available on their site Cool .

I don't think anyone could've written a better review for Aria. From all the small moments between Akari and li'l Ai in the very first episode, I was hooked to this atmospheric series. It's good to be in touch with something innocent and positive after a day in the real world.

To many things to buy. Oh well, I don't mind being poor for a couple weeks. Can't wait for birthday, then my cash flow will jump start again.
