I wish I could have seen it. The strange thing is my theater carries Fathom Events events.. and they even advertised the Death Note movie in a preview before Prince Caspian. But it wasn't playing within an hour of where I lived.
 I hope they can get even more theaters for the second film.

I was one of 65,000 and one of 20,000 to purchase in advance. They were selling out across Dallas those days.
I will be going to the second one in September. I can hardly wait. I enjoyed the dub, but I would have preferred Japanese with subtitles. Luckily the dub actors were the same as the anime on [adult swim], so that made it more bearable. Naturally people cosplayed at the theater. The Misa Misas kept up pace with all of the Ls showing up. Now...Bandai needs to release the coming Eureka Seven movie in theaters and all will be good with the world. |

So that's 217 people per theater, or 108 per theater per day. Not bad, compared to the 36 people per theater for Naruto. They probably even made some money on this one. I am actually kind of surprised. Anyway, it's good news.
Edit:
But it is only about 250,000 per week. I am not sure how several million was came about to be the correct number. What did they do just add every week up? That would leave a grand total of 9.25 million viewers. 
I am sure over a million people have seen the Death Note anime. But is that just an educated guess, or is their hard empirical data that they are pointing to with that?

I wish I could have seen it. My local theater had a poster in there claiming it was showing it, but when I went to go to see it, they said they were forced to put the poster up although they themselves were not showing it. SUCKED big time. Eventually, 2 days later, I finally found the theater showing it in my area - about 30 miles away, with a horrible parking lot. Maybe I can catch the Bleach movie there.

curse you viz!! I really wanted to see the first movie in theaters but all the movie theaters were like 50 miles or more away.

Oh did they? Darn it all!  I went to go see Prince Caspian on Monday but we missed the first few trailers it looked like!
Oh well though, it's probably only due to location anyways. I'm not entirely sure if any of the theaters around me were showing it, but of course chances for such increase one would think considering it was in FAR more theaters than Naruto was as it seems. In fact so far all we've got here so far was the FMA movie and the One Piece movie, both Funimation titles. So who knows if we'll even get the Bleach movie either........ Such a shame that the great state of Utah get's overlooked with such things.

Living near a major city ensures most special movies. I loved it!
Sadly, there was no cosplayers at the theater. I should've did L since it's the easiest cosplay ever! Or Misa because I dress like her anyway. |

It was showing in my city, but I didn't really have plans to go since it was dubbed and I wasn't sure whe I would get out of class. (I definitely would've went if it was subtitled.)
Decided to catch a bus to the theater about an hour beforehand, but the driver hit a fire hydrant and we ended up waiting there for about 30 minutes. At that point I said forget it. |

Um . . . I actually DID see it in theatres. I thought this forum would have more people who did.
I didn't know the movie was dubbed before I saw it, I had assumed it would have been subbed. I'm not so crazy about live-action dubbing, but I wasn't going to walk out when the ticket cost $20 (since it was a 2-night-only thing). I thought the movie was quite enjoyable, but I could tell some of the plot was a set-up for the next movie. It was kinda annoying that Viz didn't subtitled the written text, although I can read kana and some kanji. |

I've been waiting for the results to come out , but that is indefinitely a good thing.
It would be crazy for them not to place out the 2nd movie, since people are already anticipating that release. |

The theater I went to was about a third full. The crowd would erupt with applause every time a familiar character would come onscreen. There was even an awed hush right before L's 1st appearance. Little things like that made for an enjoyable experience... it made up for the annoying kids who sat in front who would ad lib every now and then.
