My parents find it kinda unusual but they are very open-minded and educated people, so they might joke about it but they won't complain or condemn me in any way. I'm a music freak with something like 4,000 songs on my iPod, and my mom knows that I have a good taste for music...I'm the one buying her albums and showing her new stuff so she probably won't ever tell me I'm listening to something "strange" or "bad".
I listen mostly to J-Rock with some J-Pop and other anime music mixed into it sometimes. Shounen series OST's are usually the best IMO.

Oh, listening to.. Japanese music? You're so weird! You should be studying!... Well, it's not a bad song... It sure as hell doesn't compare to Pink Floyd though! Now start studying!" |
Your dad's right (about Pink Floyd) and so are you (about AKFG). I will break it down to the basics of rock music in one simple step: Look at this Graph
STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN > PINK FLOYD > AKFG > ALL ELSE
Oh and....
Wolverine, who the heck is that dentist? He sounds like an unruly Paedophile who wants to befriend teenagers and put his food in your mouth...eeeek, scary.

hehehe... these are reactions of different people to Jmusic!!!
for the first timers who don't know the existence of the Jmusic:
"What are you listening to?"
for somebody who knows I'm an anime fan:
"Can you even understand what you're listening to?"
to my friends:
"dude, give me a copy!"
to my relatives:
"oh, Jmusic again, don't you have anything other than that?"
Honestly, since I'm always playing Jmusic some are liking it and also, even my aunt can sing some lyrics of the song Yume no Tsubasa... Also, people who's not into it always approach me in school and ask if I can burn them a CD

Whenever I listen to them, my mom would always tell me "That again? Don't you ever get tired of listening to them?" But there was a time when she liked a song. I think it was Groovy from Cardcaptor Sakura. Haha. Weird.

Whenever my dad sees me listening to anime soundtracks he would always have a nasty comment so as musch as possible I try not to listen whenever he is around. But my mom is a different matter. She wouldn't mind it even if the volume is really loud. In fact she even has her favorite anime song. Really funny....and weird. With my friends, I had no trouble listening to anime songs because we share the same love for anime

My parents don't really mind. I play "different" American music more than I do anime songs, so they probably don't mind. Not to mention, they aren't listening in the first place, unless I play it in the car.
My older brother used to tease me about it sometimes and would "sing along" (a.k.a. pretend to sing in Japanese obnoxiously). But hey, I annoy him too, so I really shouldn't be talking!

My mom hates listening to music that's not in English, but she actually liked the Honey and Clover soundtrack with Suneohair and Spitz stuff. My dad doesn't really care. I don't really play the really cutesy stuff around them though. When I'm driving I play mostly generic mainstream jpop like Motohiro Hata "Uroko" (look it up on youtube!! It's a good song!!) and AI "What's Goin' On".
My brother doesn't like anything other than Classic Rock...but he doesn't really mind the anime stuff as long as it's not too high-pitched.

My sister and I both love japanese music (although we have different preferences when it comes to the type of music and the artist). Listening to anime soundtracks is fine with my mom but my dad is a different matter. Whenever my dad is around I try not to listen to it because for some reason he strongly despises anime (and any thing related to it...that includes the soundtracks). My friends are also fans of anime so I have no problem with them when it comes to soundtracks...in fact we often listen to anime songs together. There were times when I'd sing out loud anime songs in school and my classmates would give me this really weird look and they would often tell me to shut up

well.. when my parents found out/knew about me liking/having japanese-anime soundtracks, they are usually like: what? you can understand it? OR say something. OR what does that mean?
my friends... i am pretty sure they listen and have some themselves, but they aren't as into it as i am.
basically, their reactions to it is like blahhh?

My parents are familiar with big names like Gackt, TM Network/Revolution, X Japan and other bands that are really famous. Otherwise they tend to be big Enka fans and our tastes in music has very little middle ground since I only listen to rock/metal. They are probably aware of a good number of J-Pop bands, but I tend to also shy away from stuff that doesn't rock. I have only gone out to karaoke with them on a couple of occasions (with my uncle) and they convinced me to punch in a couple of metal ballads up. They have tried to get me into enka, but it just isn't my style.

My sister has become indifferent to it, bundling it in with my other eccentricities as it's just 'what I'm like'. She and my parents do find it a bit weird, understandably, when I start enthusiastically mouthing Japanese lyrics. Like five minutes ago, when I was rediscovering the awesomeness that is the various Fullmetal Alchemist OPs.
I was at my voluntary job the other day, with an older woman who said that she didn't like listening to music that wasn't in English, because she wasn't used to it.
I refrained from saying that I was used to hearing non-English songs because of how much Japanese music I listen to. Even when I'm not familiar with the lyrics, the sound of the songs we play in the shop (which are in many languages, and not many are Japanese, as it happens) tend to blend into the background for me.

this is quite interesting. I love some anime soundtracks and JPOP (actually, they are the same) I listen to it as an alternative for US music, but when my mom knew i listened to it, she said I AM STUPID KIND OF PERSON WHO LISTENS TO MUSIC I CAN'T UNDERSTAND.
But, it did not affect me too much, I still listen JPOP a lot.
