When I started reading the Medalist manga, I was amazed by both the art and story. I was even more amazed when I later found out this is the author's debut work (well, aside a single oneshot). Seems ENGI can capture some of that magic.

I am not a big sports anime person and figure skating is far from a personal passion, but so far I'm enjoying this. Come on, how can you not love a heroine who digs up worms to calm her nerves?

I’m glad this isn’t a queer romance, it set me off from continuing to watch Yuri on Ice. That’s not my thing.

This is literally my favorite sports manga right now so I really was hoping for the best

It's crazy that ENGI seems to be making the best anime production of the studio's existence if this manages to keep up its quality.

I’m not that big on sports anime but was curious about this one since ENGI is working on it and I gotta say I’m genuinely surprised by how good it is so far! will definitely keep this one on the watchlist for now.

Man, why is it that everyone talks about Yuri on Ice, it's like they only know the show from vague descriptions. Did you forget that that that show indeed has a whole tourney arc in it and people only don't talk about that because it's really bad and pointless? I mean sure, it wasn't super shounen-y, but it was just very idol boy group "cute smexy figure skater of the week" type of stuff instead. Honestly, I wish Yuri on Ice was what you describe it as.

Disappointed that they went right for the whole "this amateur will become world class in just a few months". Like, what does that say about the rival who's been training for years if she get bested by someone who just started?

Also, how did the mom not know about the tier system if her first daughter already went trough all that?

I've been enjoying this so far. I don't expect another Yuri on Ice (and I'm still mourning the cancelled movie), but it's nice to have another anime about figure skating again after so long.

I'm not sure why you're calling that "pointless" when competing in the Grand Prix is, in fact, the main point of Yuri on Ice along with how Yuuri and Victor's relationship develops. The story starts with Yuuri placing dead last in the Grand Prix Final, Victor declares that he'll coach Yuuri for the next Grand Prix, and most of the anime's episodes focus on their progress through that competition (which is a real competition that is portrayed pretty accurately).

I wondered about that too. Or how it would've been news to Inori as well. It's like she only lived in the bubble of watching figure skating on tv and only had a vague awareness that her sister was actively engaged in it and competing. If she wants this so badly, I'd expect her to be obsessively reading and learning everything she can about the sport and how to get into it. Talking to her actual family members involved would be the least she'd do, but she only seems to be aware that her sister got hurt and ended her chances.

It also bugs me that when skating the characters' heads are waay too big for their bodies.

She may have tried talking to her family and they may have shut her down. Her mom doesn't want her to have anything to do with skating, and the fact that we haven't seen her sister suggests to me that they two of them may not be close. If her sister is bitter about her skating dreams being cut short, it may not be an acceptable topic of discussion in their household. But that still doesn't explain her mom's cluelessness.

It's also streaming on Disney+ (in Canada at least).
