I'm assuming that'll be the same for Hulu.

Not sure about others, but I wouldn't mind seeing pre TYBW anime remake. Very Happy

As someone who recently finished the original anime (skipping over the filler eps) and the available TYBW, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Although I'm looking forward to the return of Bleach, I still think it was a mistake to only make this 4 cours when there's so much more the anime could take from the light novels (and fix from the manga). I've yet to care about the Sternritters, and many of the fights lack purpose beyond killing an "enemy of the week" and trying to create spectacles for the viewers. Which is fine in small doses, but there are a LOT of enemies. I'd like to think more time to tell the story could build up these characters and help me to actually care about or sympathize with them, but maybe I'm wrong.

Why? I know from other threads that you have this "let's remake everything older than 10 years because it doesn't look modern enough" attitude, but what do you expect could be improved by a remake of this one? The anime version stayed pretty true to the visual style of the manga, and it did an impressive job on both musical and design fronts in its action scenes, so I'm going to need something more convincing than just "oh, anime looks so different now than it did 20 years ago," because it doesn't.

Although it petered out towards the end, Bleach at its peak was one of the most successful shows of its era, up there with One Piece, Naruto, and Inuyasha. It didn't skip any significant content that I'm aware of, and it is being properly finished. Also, its popularity boat has sailed, so I'm not sure it could attract the same kind of audience these days if remade. So what compelling reason is there for anyone to seek a remake?

I find it fascinating how much Pierrot slowed down. Parrot used to be a Toei-style content farm in the 00s and 10s with the end product very much feeling like "content" and not an artistic expression. Now they are just another anime studio with a manageable amount of output and somehow can´t get Naruto on screens for whatever reason. Not a fan of Two Blue Vortex btw.

If I was Pierrot I would just release Bleach Kai, which mostly edits out filler with a few redrawn scenes but the ideal time for that was in the lead-up to TYBW. Editing 366 episodes down to let´s something between 150-180 eps with 3 to 5 editors, a skeleton screw of animators and the original composer shouldn´t take more than half a year. Half the original show is filler. The end result would be a digestible product that extends the longevity of the anime and costs next to nothing to make. Such a fan cut fully exists of course proving a gap in the market.

I have little idea what happens in Shippuded as I jumped off right before the Team Asuma arc but I saw all of Naruto Shippuded Kai (starting from that point) and Boruto Kai. It´s baffling to me that DBK was a near one-and-done for the industry. Attention spans are only getting shorter, even in Japan. Coherent adaptations of everything from OG Dragon Ball, Fist of the North Star to One Piece already exist, it just took fans to chisel them out of filler, reaction shots and repeated flashbacks of Rebecca and her toy soldier. Absolute heroes, those editors.

Agreed on both points.

The anime did irreparable damage to the series with how badly it adapted the Substitute Shinigami arc in order to push IchiRuki. I'd love to see a modern adaptation that follows the manga more accurately.

Why wouldn't I wish for one of my favorite anime to receive a remake with visuals better than ever, better pacing (well, I don't skip fillers, so that's not so important to me), and overall simply to experience classic Bleach modern way?

Not to mention, Bleach has some of my favorite seiyu cast who otherwise really aren't that active nowadays, so it would make me happy if they got more work.

To me, those reasons are more than enough.

Not just Boruto, remember when they promised four new episodes of Naruto for the 20th anniversary and then they just...didn't complete them? Just before the premiere date they went "Sorry! We'll release these later!" That was a year ago and we've heard nothing since.

For real, I have to wonder what happened to Pierrot on a structural level. This studio went from "we released new episodes of Naruto and Bleach almost every week for 8 years" to "we can't make four entire Naruto episodes it's too hard."

Hot take, a lot of the Bleach filler was better than the canon material. The Zanpaktou Rebellion Arc in particular is better than basically the entire second half of the manga, with fantastic villain designs and an interesting deconstruction of the whole "living weapon" concept. Bleach is one of the few series that would actually be diminished by removing filler because it's often more creative than the canon material.

Their old president and founder Yuji Nunokawa passed in 2022, so safe to say their management has definetily changed.

But more than just Pierrot's internal structure, I think it's just a highlight of how the industry has changed in general. Long running series have become increasingly less viable to produce, and overproduction problem, staff shortage, and scheduling have all equally became bigger problems.

After the announcement of One Piece remake, and countless positive reactions, Pierrot is probably also planning the new adaptation of Naruto.

You may think whatever you want about revivals, but we are simply living in this era.

Literally just apply the pacing the series had until mid Soul Society Arc (Which is where the anime caught up and they had to start making shit up) to the rest of the series but Uncensored, without flanderization of some characters, cut the filler and dead time. Done.

Kubo himself said he'd like to see it come to life recently.
