Almost like they wanted to annoy you specifically by waiting until after the article came out, the FFXIV devs are updating the benchmark to fix the lighting in the character creator.

Freedom Planet fans were waiting way longer for a sequel than Hollow Knight fans.
Just saying. |

2.0 coding strikes again. But hey, at least it's not as bad as the Pokemon Go character update |

Yeah, five or six years (or longer!) is pretty typical for small indie devs; even in the platformer/Metroidvania space, the gap between Axiom Verge 1 and 2 was six years, and Iconoclasts was developed over a whopping eight years (which sorta shows with the tone difference between the beginning and end, as much as I loved it). |

I’ll definitely get Sonic Dream Team if it gets a console release.

Also, the second game is amazing and people should play it. The amount of effort put into everything was real crazy. Probably very high up in the tier list of speedy 2d platformers. In fact I’mma rebuy it on the Switch right now. There’s a bundle that has both games. |

Everything I've heard about Freedom Planet 2 leads me to believe Galaxy Trails addressed every major complaint folks had with the first one. I'm damn pumped to try it out; FP1 was gorgeous, has amazing music and felt SO good but man, some of those boss battles were flat-out unfair as Lilac. Even if FP2 is more of FP1 but better, I'd call that a must-play. Nevertheless: no game merits the kind of obsessive attitude the Silksong crowd has been showing. Those folks need a chill pill. Even if it was Freedom Planet, I couldn't imagine badgering them for news they didn't have. |

The secret to making it to the next game release is to accept the idea that a game comes out when it comes out.
People are too caught up in the idea of hype cycles. They’re worried momentum “dies” if something takes too long, but then bitch about the thing when it drops and it’s full of problems. (For the record: I buy whatever major release I want at release and full price and without looking at reviews… I know what I’m potentially getting into, but I don’t spend my time complaining about it when I could just play games or dodge the mixup altogether if I’m actually unsure) While waiting, people can do something useful like play their backlog (don’t lie: everyone probably has at least a title or two sitting around unplayed) or gather the money to pay for the thing at release so that they can be toxic about how the product didn’t meet their unrealistic expectations so that they can harvest likes on their preferred social media. That said, talking about backlogs, there was a brief blurb in the article regarding exclusives. I am actually one of those people that was going to wait out Sony exclusivity to play FFVII remake part 2, but I am in an interesting position where my PC’s 3090 suddenly died and I’m not going out to buy a new PC right away because I’m focused on using the money on a more relevant expensive purchase towards the end of this year. Because of this sudden turn in events, I ended up using my PS5 a bunch more, which prior to a few weeks ago had been collecting dusts for years. I am very much enjoying the system: I just put in like 50+ hours into the FFVII remake and I already have part 2 downloaded and ready to go once I finish the Yuffie DLC, but the reality is that it took my PC borking to push me to use the console. Had my PC not broke, I would have waited exclusivity out and I would not be playing Rise of the Ronin right now and Stellar Blade next week. (Actually, in 3 weeks… I’m probably gonna crack out on FFVII remake part 2 before starting Stellar Blade, but it’s already preordered in any event) I don’t know if people are in the same mindset as me, but the exclusives being “soft” was enough to motivate me to just wait it out. It just so happen that I was in a situation where I lost my excuse to wait. With Nintendo, I don’t ask any questions and I just get those NSO vouchers to just buy the games at release. Also, Endless Ocean drops in May and is eligible for the voucher, so let’s all swim together and look at fish. It’s frustrating, but exclusives justify me having to go out and get another piece of plastic to play games. I suspect Nintendo is keenly aware of this. That said, I absolutely love Rise of the Ronin and I feel like Sony failed this game. I am optimistic however that it will see second life once it presumably hits PC (I am unsure if this is guaranteed and am just assuming things based on how stuff went, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong), but this is a situation where I’m glad it’s not jailed on the console and relieved that Sony has the policy it does have for its exclusives since games with an unfortunate circumstance like Ronin can get a second chance and people can discover its pretty complex combat system that even lets you learn Ninja Gaiden movesets so that you can Izuna drop people (actually, the player and enemy movelist in this game is absolutely gigantic and is the reason why a lot of the encounters feel fresh and consistently challenging). |

Sony or Team Ninja? |

Maybe. I instinctively blame Sony since they are the publisher and someone at some point should have thought to maybe get this one out of Dragon’s Dogma’s shadow, but all I know is that Team Ninja didn’t put out a lemon if people actually sit there and play it: https://youtu.be/fvEa9XuSTA8?si=T09hHShn11HUszVJ This game is pretty interesting since it offers a lot beyond my mid tier gameplay (I’m actually surprised that doing a no damage run of some of these fights only puts me in top 500, so it seems like a lot of people are good at the game or there’s some exploit I’m not doing since I haven’t really looked at other people’s gameplay yet). The setting is fairly unique and unlike most Team Ninja games, you’re actually doing more than fight. I’ve spent a decent amount of time in the game collecting cats and romancing their owner: https://youtu.be/RO3STkDH7_w?si=f_fcuG9UKxh4RAXU The recipe for a pretty good game is there and more accessible than ever before. I’m hoping word of mouth is enough to carry it and that it sees more life as a PC release. |

Fallout games are dominating the charts right now, due to the successful Amazon series, so other games are getting overshadowed

I’m actually not offended by this. I don’t know anything about those games, but I know a lot of people like them and that Walton Goggins is in it and I like him every time I see him in something. I’d probably be watching myself if I wasn’t lazy. With regards to Ronin, I’m hoping that it’s a case of “slow and steady wins the race.” That it finds its audience: essentially anyone that put any kind of serious time into stuff like Ninja Gaiden or Nioh (which I’m to understand is a decent seller) or whatever or people that were always interested in those games, but were put off because it was just you beating people up and looting. Now you can do that, but while petting dogs sent to you by other players. If it can’t find people beyond that, then it is what it is, but it at least deserves a fighting chance considering the amount of effort put into everything. |

Rise of Ronin sounds amazing and I'd love to play it but also I am all thumbs when it comes to Team Ninja's demanding control schemes for their games. Ni-Oh and Ni-Oh 2 are great games, and I recommend them in earnest, but Ni-Oh 2 almost drove me to tears in frustration.
With how so many of Nintendo's Blue Ocean-era games have been getting such lauded remakes recently, the new Endless Ocean just might bring world peace. |

This is a reasonable stance. On top of the execution requirements, some of the mandatory fights in this game are kind of brutal, particularly one double enemy fight towards one of the first major story decisions. There are difficulty settings, but I am unaware of what the game plays like on anything below Twilight. Might give it a quick look later to see what the changes are, but it’s entirely possible it doesn’t go far enough since it would have to involve stuff like making the parry timings easier since the game is designed in a way to punish you pretty harshly when you mess these up. That said, the QOL stuff is really cool. You can actually change settings so that your character picks stuff up automatically or they grab onto ropes automatically, so you can be even more ninja like and leverage the excellent game feel. |

Well yeah It's been the biggest news the last couple weeks, and that the 2nd season has now been approved It's continuing the recent trend of video games being the source of good TV series |
