Weren't there reports of keeping PS5s vertical causing problems with the liquid cooling system or something?

Either way, while the PS5 has a marginally larger library of things I care about, Microsoft's "just make it a box" approach is way kinder on storage space (and imo more aesthetically pleasing). Still can't imagine myself buying either, though.

The game is still introducing some phenomenal characters (even if I'm tilting my head a little at how it handles 30-year-olds). Also, a bit of a shame that the story is going for a DARLING in the FRANXX twist; I'm hoping it improves some.

I'm guessing that spoiler[you made it to The City.] Yeah, I too am a bit bummed out that the revelation doesn't leave room for any other types of relationships for the main cast (unless spoiler[you count the shippy moments between Eunie and Ashera)]

spoiler[Yeah, I'm at that point in the story. And, like, I get it: part of the whole thing with people being stuck in loops of reincarnation as cannon fodder means they can't have kids or fall in love, but this basically turns the story into Shinzo Abe-style "The most rebellious thing you can do is pair off into heterosexual couples for the purpose of procreation" stuff. One thing the IDW Transformers comics did is actually end the war between the Autobots and Decepticons--and in doing so, people who had only known war had to figure out what to do with their time. You had scores of robots pair bonding, which gave us a lot of (gay) couples like Chromedome and Rewind or Cyclonus and Tailgate, some Transformers re-thought their identity and were even revealed to be transgender like Nautica (and she didn't even need Arcee's weird circumstancees)... I was hoping that something like that could happen in Xenoblade 3. Sure, if you're freed from a Facist life-loop, it means you can finally have kids on your own, but it also means who can be who you want to be. Who's to say someone like Teach or Ashera doesn't discover, "Oh, I'm actually gay!" No such luck, I guess. Juniper being nonbinary helps with that plenty, especially since Juniper doesn't get crapped on for not being heteronormative the way gay people did in DitF.]

Well hey, at least XC3's ending makes spoiler[everything about said twist completely irrelevant], so there's no reason to worry about it. :p

AFAIK, that was just something that spun out of what was likely just a manufacturing defect on one unit

Out of all the issues and complaints I've heard people have about Xenoblade 3's story, this is the first time I heard someone complain that the characters were all straight.
I myself liked the story DLC a lot more than the main game and would have preferred the main game to be all about what the DLC covered.

I mean, I have a laundry list of issues in a similar vein, but I certainly wasn't going to share them here until/unless Jean-Karlo mentioned it first. Which took... a while. I also typed it up and then immediately deleted it because I don't feel like getting trapped in a debate in the TWIG comments, again. I have better uses for my creative energies.

Skipping to the end, I don't think there's any deliberate malice in XC3, just a few clumsy attempts at inclusivity that didn't naturally mesh with the ideas in play, and ended up creating implications that the writers quite possibly didn't notice or simply weren't prepared to explore. Basically the only mitigating factor is the ending, spoiler[which takes a surprise third option from the two established possible outcomes, essentially rejecting both]. The philosophical underpinnings the game intends to discuss are interesting and valid, but probably could have been done in a way that didn't stray so far into unfortunate implications territory. Oh, well.

The downside is that the UItimate Enhanced Edition is, for now, going to be Switch-exclusive.

I'm still annoyed about this, even as someone who owns a Switch. Why would you make the Ultimate Enhanced Edition exclusive to the weakest console? That's something of a contradiction, isn't it?

I own the base game on Steam, but I haven't played it yet (I'm watching the anime first). But after learning about the "Ultimate" edition, I don't really want to play that base version anymore. But I don't wanna play the "Ultimate" edition on THE SWITCH either, so...

Good Job, Iggymob. Sad

I mean, it's just a name.

It's my understanding that many of these changes were done precisely to ensure G.O.R.E. ran on the Switch in the first place (which would likely explain why they're defaulting to a cel-shaded filter instead of the "realistic" look). And with Iggymob being as small a team as it is, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to all of these updates. Porting them back to the "main" versions of the game is likely not a priority when they want to make sure that the Switch version launches smoothly. Like I said, let's give them a chance. At every other turn, Iggymob has done right by its fans. It's likely they're trying to pull a WayForward, making sure a re-release with extra bells and whistles works before retroactively spreading the goodies to other versions of the game.

In addition to what Jean said, the Switch isn't just the weakest console, it's also the most popular worldwide and, specifically in Japan, by a landslide. That's also why Dragon Quest XI's Definitive Edition launched on the Switch almost a year and a half before Square Enix re-released it onto the other platforms.

Slim redesigns have happened with every Playstation, but the reduced manufacturing costs were passed on to the customer, and enticed people who didn't have one yet. The PS4 slim had a hard drive that was double the size of the original, and was cheaper, while the improved hardware on the Pro was priced at the MSRP of the original. Considering that prices went up on the PS5 in various reasons, the digital version is increasing in price, and you have to buy a vertical stand if the size of the console limits where you can put it, it really feels like the tag line on it could have been, "Be glad we aren't charging more."

There were, but the suspicion that it was a very small percentage of systems seems to have panned out since nothing more has come of it. Plus, if there were a common design flaw that was solved by positioning horizontally, I don't think Sony would bother with the vertical stand at all, instead of selling it separately. Even if there was a problem that they didn't want to admit, I think they would quietly mitigate it by not having a vertical stand instead of increasing the potential liability by charging more for it.

I just wanna say, even at this late point, that there is at least ONE other Izuna fan in the world as big as this article's author, and he is delighted to find that he has company.
