I have to agree with the review that this series has been a pleasant surprise for the same reasons. Season 2 was more about the side characters, which is fine. The teasing seems more like an expression of love for people that can't do more under the circumstances, which completely re-characterizes it.

This season may not have hit the highs of the first, but it was still a joy to come back to this series and spend more time with its characters. And I'm so glad it's getting a third season.

Usually the teasing trope comes across as the girl picking on the guy for trying to be a gentleman. But Alice isn't laughing at him. She's telling him that there's a future with her, and she's waiting for him. Her straightforward honesty constantly keeps him off balance, fascinating him with trying to work out this enigma that is Alice, despite her being the most candid and guileless character ever (which is not to say that she doesn't have some secrets she's keeping or that she is at all naive).
Quote: | Arguably, other dramatic plot points, such as the mystery around Alice's mother, don't go anywhere. |
Don't go anywhere? Not only do we discover that her mother is still alive, when Alice had been told she was dead, she awakens at the end of the season. That's pretty big in my book. We also learned who the cursing witch was and that for some reason she really didn't like Alice. That's also major forward plot progression. Ymmv, I guess.
I got no complaints about this season. Alice is still the goofiest, most whimsical character I've ever seen while still always remaining perfectly, gracefully composed and soft spoken. Their tandem broom ride leisurely cruising around the mansion was a real treat, among so many other great moments this season. I can't wait for more of this adorable pair's adventures.

Will there be any reviews for Spy Classroom Season 2 and Kengan Ashura Season 2?

I agree with much of the review, and I too was impatient for the main plot to progress...I was actually hoping the curse would get resolved because I was afraid that we wouldn't get a season 3. But I never felt like the season was padded. The additional cast is only a distraction if you accept the premise that the Duke and Alice's relationship should exist in isolation. I see the Duke's much needed communication with his brother, the development of Zane and Cuff as true friends, and even the experience of working in the circus as a much needed way for him to come out of his shell. Considering the suicidal introversion and despair he exhibited in season 1, I could even argue that those kinds of steps might be as important as breaking the curse. I don't think it's stasis, I think it's character development through layering.
