The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses

While everyone else was dreading the GoHands animation style, it was actually quite restrained in most cases. The background filter was more annoying than the animation, and did the MMC really need to sound like he was in a panic attack the whole episode?

I do hope they explain the frog in a future episode.

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses: Yeah, I enjoyed this one, despite it being by Go Hands. I mean, those motion-sickness-inducing camera angles/pans are pretty awful, but there really wasn’t so much of it in this ep. I think the two leads are cute and I really like the hair animation (though I can see how that might be over-the-top for some). This could end up being a very charming show.

Despite the GoHands weirdness, IMO the male lead's hysterics were the worst part of this first episode of The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses. Aharen-san from last year had a similar dynamic with a much more likeable other half. Maybe he'll improve as the season goes on, though.

Complaints about Kaede's extremely anxious demeanor and vocal tics in The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses should be tempered with the understanding that he is, in fact, extremely anxious and struggles between his ideal of being a "good kid" -- staying in the shadows and never bothering anyone for anything -- and his newly-discovered but constantly-repressed need to move forward. If it bothers you, you should probably bail; his neuroses get worse before they get better.

GoHand is doing two animes this season?! How is it possible for competent studio to struggle making one anime every season, but here's Go"please have a barf bag ready in case of turbulence"Hand somehow given two animes? Is there some exec that just really love their style? Are they the cheapest studio to hire because they hire blind people and pay them very little? Is there actually an audience for this, the BDSM equivalent of anime watching?

For the record, I haven't seen Glasses Girl yet. The trailers gave me cautious optimism for it, knowing what GoHands was going to do, but Nick's first impressions made it seem like Susumu Kudo should be trialled at the Hague for war crimes against anime.

Considering that I've relatively liked both K and Seitokai Yakuindomo, both by GoHands, I felt the weird angles and stuff they were trying for in Glasses Girl didn't work for me. The animation is very unnatural looking as well, as the characters are stiff in the way they move

What's even more surprising it's the mostly same staff doing both series including director and writer.

The Girl that I Like Forgot Her Glasses is the single biggest example of how characters constantly moving + having a ton of detail/visual elements at once on screen does not make for "good" animation. That entire sequence of Komura heading to class is one of the most awful scenes I've seen in a while.

And I keep forgetting that this is a style choice, not a result of awful production conditions. The credits show that every aspect of production (key animation, in-betweens, background art, compositing) was done in-house, which is just... why?

Can't second this enough. Directors at GoHands should go study at a respectable art school so they understand perspective, motion, and visual perception properly. I'm all for breaking boundaries, but this isn't serving the purpose they seem to be thinking it is.

It's depressing when you can read the subtitles in "The Dreaming Boy is Realist" so well and instictively, that you can't help but wonder what was the issue when Nicholas and Caitlin talked about the translation, until they mentioned it looked like mtl. Only *then* I looked at the subtitles closely and realized that, yes, they are absolutely right, this is how low quality mtl looks like.

Yes, of course...I've been reading mtl'd Chinese/Korean/Japanese novels for a little under ten years. Everything makes sense now, the mtl broke my brain.

Are we being trained to accept mtl as a base quality for localization...? Laughing

While the visuals had such unrealistic distortion that I thought was not achievable with CGI, the story and dialogue for The Girl...I found thoroughly charming. The characters despite review do have realistic personalities for that age. It reminded me of my late Grade School/JHS years and I think they captured the feeling of those days and thoughts perfectly, there was even a girl I liked and if she were like Mie-san I would have been Komura-kun. I wasn't sure if this were my type of story and I haven't seen those of the same genre as listed in the guide but I am looking forward to more of this...
