As for One Piece, like Naruto I don't see the attraction of stories of people hitting each other for no apparent reason, especially when there are no consequences (severe injuries, maimings, blindings etc.) and everybody is back to "normal" next episode. Hell even the hats people wear in One Piece seem to survive cataclysmic disasters. I realise this attitude may exclude me from the Cult of Shonen but if so then so be it. |
What you said about One Piece is so false.
The main draw of One Piece isn't the action, it's the sense of adventure, living out your dreams and discovering the culture, history of society within a specified region. That said, the reason for a lot of the action in One Piece stems from either the Straw Hats or their friends/allies being ridiculed or experiencing pain, and Luffy's response is often picking a fight with those who've wronged them. There are consequences for Luffy picking fights, sometimes it can lead to battles too great for the Straw Hats to win, so all they have to do is survive. Sabaody Archipelago, Impel Down and Marineford are arcs that show that Luffy's actions can have consequences.

There is an episode where Lum purposedly doesn't react to Ataru's provocation (resulting in her frustration building up) and there are several episodes where Ataru isn't a sexual predator but actually quite nice to Lum and other female characters (especially the one episode with a ghost of a young girl), but yeah, it's just not your humour, so I think we all get it by now.

I know, that's why I taunted you. I'm a big fan of the manga myself since 1998 ;-)
Edit: Hey, did you know that there's a manzai skit in one of Ashinano's doujinshi where Alpha beats the shit out of Konone and humiliates her, just for fun? ;-)

YKK on the other hand I'm a big BIG fan of but "Gun-toting robot lesbian bikers roaming a post-apocalyptic wasteland" is right up my alley plot-wise and no-one gets tortured for laughs in that series. Pity that the Seven Seas English-language release of the manga is a train-wreck, I've been waiting twenty years and more for it. |
Bro you just think way too realistic, if you stopped comparing it to real life and just watched for the entertainment I believe you'll find yourself enjoying things more.
