Quick FYI that Part-Timer's author is now writing a new LN series, Dracula Yakin/Late-Night Shift Dracula. Currently 5 volumes are out. https://dengekibunko.jp/product/dorayaki/322106001056.html
It's an urban fantasy series about a vampire who works the titular late-night shift at a Tokyo convenience store, and the androphobic lady exorcist from Europe who ends up crossing paths with him. There's also a manga adaptation of this too, but unfortunately it only covers LN Vol 1; likely meant as a short promo for the novels.
I'm aware that the much later LN material towards the end spoiler[gets a lot of bad reception from fans over the author's later treatment of Chiho; that despite much of the initial story and developments pointing towards/in favour of a Maou x Emilia ship, the author (forcibly) steered the story to set up Chiho as the leading lady. Many fans were angry over this because (from hearsay) it felt forced and went against the Emilia setup that Wagahara-sensei initially wrote to begin with. Supposedly there were accounts of people destroying their copies of the final LN volume in protest against the developments he wrote.] |

I think the actors help to deliver a lot of hilarious punchlines. I mean, in the first episode Mao and his servant are trying to use Japanese for the first time and it generates a shock to both of them when they are successful. I think it's Ryota Osaka.

Oh damn, I just read about this. It's true. You know what, I don't even have it in me to be disappointed anymore. Someday I'll try and decipher what is the main reason why spoiler[so many series botch their endings this badly. I strongly suspect that it's because they want to go with a plot twist for shock value in order to be memorable. It's still not a great way to be remembered. But I seriously can't remember the last time a series had a decent ending, from the ones I'm following. Either I'm unlucky and it's a me problem, or it's a more general issue.] |

Absolutely. (spoilers for ending of the LN) spoiler[Before I found out about this, I was really looking forward to seeing the anime continue. But after? I was completely disgusted. I like Chiho, more or less, but Maou x Chiho just makes no sense. It's cringeworthy, and it tosses away the flow of the narrative. As has been said: it's forced.] Basically, this series is dead to me now. |

I think in many cases, the author/project team use "This will be cool" as their guide for plot development. While it *is* important for things to be cool or interesting or exciting, it *also* has to make sense from what came before. And, it is important to think about how you want it to end and to map out how to reach that conclusion. Sticking the landing seems to be really hard for a lot of folks, unfortunately. Out of all the anime series I've watched over the years (and there have been a lot), *very* few end well. Most either stop, do an unsatisfactory gecko ending, or go off so far into the weeds that things stop making sense to anyone except the writers. IMO, this is one of the major drawbacks of the genre, but it doesn't seem like that's going to change anytime soon, if ever. |

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, spoiler[but it was always Maou x Chiho to me. True, Emi undoubtedly is the deuteragonist of the series, but I don't ever remember seeing her as a viable matchup to Maou...]

spoiler[I agree wholeheartedly, Chiho's deserved to be with Maou. ] So back to the topic at hand, I'm thrilled to see the return of Hataraku Maousama. While the new art style is a bit jank, all of the performances have been really strong. |

Agreed. I'll never understand the rabid 'fan' reaction like that. In regards to the mentioned "fatphobia" towards the landlady, if I am remembering right there is an actual in-universe reason for their disgust/horror and it has nothing to do with her weight. I don't think it will be shown in season 2 but novel readers will be well aware of it. |
