actually: 1. Sony for the last 5-6 years have been making record profits in the entire hstory of the company, and that includes the year the PS5 launched, they only make more and more money 2. most money from PlayStation doesn't come from "PS5 only games sales", it comes from the 30% platform holder cut, so for example every single Call of Duty, Fifa, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed copy sold on PS4/5, Sony gets 30% of that, and of every addon/mtx, PlayStation alone accounts for 50% of the money Fortnite makes, and Sony gets 30% of that, not even talking about PS+ 40~50 million subs at $60/year 3. the hardware stopped being sold at a loss in June, they are already in the green on hardware |

Source on point number 3? Not calling you a liar just want to verify. Also when I say Sony I mean all of their divisions. Don't their other division's regularly hemorrhage money and their gaming division is what keeps them up?

How? I still can't find the damn thing, and any time they do show up online, they're usually gone by the time a human puts it into their shopping cart. Now, since I do work in people's houses (I'm an exterminator), I do tend to notice what game consoles people have (because I'm just a bit nosey on that), and I think I've seen a grand total of 3, maybe 4, PS5s across all houses I've been in over the 8+ months or however long the system has been out for. I see Switches all the time (sometimes multiple ones if they have more than one kid). PS4s, all the time. But PS5s? Almost never. And it seems like any house with anyone Gen X or younger in it has a games console.
I remember what a pain it was to get a DS or a Wii when those systems came out (I got a DS pretty damn early, back when SM64 was the only good game on it) and if I could tell past me how easy those were to get in comparison, I would. I know Switches were hard to get at first too, but I think you could get one fairly easily 8 months on at least. I didn't think I was going to get a PS5 in the Xmas 2020 holiday window by any stretch of the imagination, but I had assumed I'd be able to get one by summer. I really wish there was a good way to stop scalpers from using bots to buy those damn things so I could finally get one. I'm basically giving up on getting Spider Man: Miles Morales on PS5 and just going to get the damn thing on PS4 at this point. |

for number 3 from the latest PlayStation Investor Day financial report https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/irday/pdf/2021/GNS_E.pdf and I meant Sony all divisions, more money than ever, across the board, for years in a row from latest financial reports https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/er/pdf/20q4_sonypre.pdf https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/er/pdf/20q4_supplement.pdf for revenue, PlayStation is only 30% of the company for profit, PlayStation is only 33% of the company and for gaming division specifically hardware is only 20% of their sales, and it's up 39% Year On Year, and this is with the PS5 launch included and several months after it and to clarify something else, the chip shortage is affecting the customers, not Sony, Sony is making more PS5s and selling them to consumers than PS4s at the same time with no chip shortage, it's not that Sony can't make them, it's that more people want one than ever before, chip shortage or no chip shortage, there's a limit to how many things you can make at a time |

Welp that mostly shut me up. I tip my hat to you good person. While you say the gaming division is only 30% that's still leaps and bounds bigger then some of the other ones. I would have thought the insurance/financial part of their business would be bigger however I guess it's because they don't do that part in the USA besides credit cards.

You might as well I bought the digital version (eventhough I haven't yet finished all the DLC for the first game) as it was on sale and with me likely not getting one til the potential redesign I now have this and Hitman 3 (and the PS Plus version of Plague Tale innocence) as games to play on the system once I get it. |

I'm sure scalpers are still doing their thing to some extent, but honestly there's just a huge demand for PS5s and people are following like twitter accounts or something similar that inform them whenever some place gets a new stock of PS5s. That's basically how I got mine. If you want a PS5 you need to find a way to follow stock updates for multiple store fronts and watch over that stuff like a hawk. |
