Episode 8
Well, that was a bit on the bizarre side. Ninja cats. They were a little less cute with wielding sharp daggers. Also, the girls bought some sort of random junk while off their faces and had it sent to their patron's house. And that raccoon, it was rather odd that I too thought it must be a tanuki, but tail don't lie. |

To tell you the truth, I was kind of ready for a "lighter" episode and ninja cats were just the ticket. Plus it was good to finally meet the gal who is in the OP doing a karate stance. Love the offbeat humour... ordering a tobacco picking machine because it looked like something good to travel in the Otherside with...

Episode 9
Just a couple of besties, hugging and repeating each other's name. I was kind of wondering if they would actually do away with the subtext and have someone actually do something already, something clear. Although it was kind of clear when Natsumi talking about being worried that she would have to compete with a beauty, and it did feel like something was pretty much unsaid between her and Akari. Thought that they would kiss. Is it like a bad stereotype to make of a woman who works as a mechanic, and used to beat up guys from hitting on her friend? Also, descriptions of Satsuki seem pretty broad, some girls thought she was the best ever, others got a creepy feeling from her that practically sound like the urban legends they are dealing with. |

Yeah the supposed physical resemblance between Sorawo and Satsuki is interesting. Hmm, I wonder what that portends? I love that the Otherside bleeds into "reality." Just gives the show so many interesting directions to go.

Episode 11
I loved that the girls have gone back to save the soldiers, and indeed the soldiers were ready to accept their assistance, even calling the "The Girls". Quite right about wanting to go save them, even though some of the soldiers tried to kill them last time. Apparently the ones who might have been so ready to turn on them were already losing it and in the effects of madness. Granted, going back to try and save all of them is a bit mad in its own right. Apparently all the soldiers had actually blacked out exactly how they got there, it seems to be an urban legend called Kankandara, which I plan to watch a reading of some time after writing this, just like I did for the station. |

The show missed a prime opportunity:
"I'm Toriko!" "I'm Sorawo!" In unison: "Together, we're THE GIRLS!" The show continues to make excellent use of bgm and sound to heighten the horror atmosphere/tension. Good direction, too. That part where... THE GIRLS... were being shot at by the unseen soldiers was really effectively staged. |

I forgot to mention the background music. Was it the same that it has always been, or did it sound a bit like from something like the movie Predator? For some reason it was popping into my head when they were escorting the military guys, which I thought could be fitting for a situation of a bunch of peak trained soldiers perhaps having no vision of what real threats could be out there. I was hoping that it was not just me imposing it, especially it being a movie that is actually the basis of my username.
Predator theme Is there some simularity? |

Episode 12 (finale)
Well, they did it, managed to destroy the monster in the Kankandara, do it by the first half and spend the second half reflecting on events and trying to appease their patron by removing the piece of farming equipment from her lawn that they bought while drunk. It was nice seeing how it was an accomplishment in managing to save those guys, how grateful they were to The Girls. But also that each other are important to each other. I know that the series can be a bit up and down in places, and not like it totally killed it, but I really could look forward to another season, I liked its attempt at horrors that are eldritch or some element of creepy pasta, I actually just recently got back into listening to readings of them because of this show. But also, we have adult main character that go off and do drinking and are just kind of charming. Would love to see them get together, which I feel pretty certain is an aspect or something later on, it did feel like a bit more than the ambiguous bait stuff you might see in other things, and I would say that it kind of felt like the ending was maybe trying to stretch how much it could do because of what it is at this point. I also think there is room for improvement, some of the different episodes do seem disjoined from each other, which I think some comments pointed that different parts were adapted out of order. I too was sure that the hat that helped them save the soldiers was destroyed to get off the beach. I am really fond of some of its style, like the OP is not anything super special in ways, but I really like what it does with intercutting the creepiness with just these women doing stuff, with the touch of emotion. And I always lose it at the part where the girls are trying to run away from something by going down a winding staircase, like a couple of cartoon characters only for the monster to get there first. Things like horror in anime is hard, but I would really like to see the edges smoothed out and done better. Eldritch horror is even harder, not even Hollywood can do that well a lot of the time. This show did well in how it used things like music with choices of cinematography to convey things, eve if I want that element continued to be improved. My rating is Very good (8/10), you don't see this sort of series all too often, if you are like me and are into a series featuring adults, following elements of creepypasta and eldritch horror, this is a must watch. I am maybe admitting that won't be the case for everyone, that this is something I am not being as unbiased as I often try to be, but this series is an intersection of my interests that I am going to rate higher. |

Cool show, bro. I'm sorry we didn't get more insight into what the actual deal with the Otherside is but perhaps in future seasons? I enjoyed watching our (sort of) intrepid pair go on their various adventures and Kozakura was an amusing secondary character. I'm sorry to be saying good-bye to...
...THE GIRLS... ...but really hope to see them again, soon. |
